Giant sand

March 8th, 2009

Howe Gelb is making the music I want to make when I grow up.Arizona-based musician Howe Gelb has released the first Giant Sand album in nearly four years proVISIONS featuring friends such as Isobell Campbell, Neko Case and M. Ward.Sounds like it should be a song on a David Lynch movie.
‘Giant Sand is a mood,’ says Howe Gelb and that`s sums it all up.

Naim Amor

March 8th, 2009

Amor Naim makes the sexiest music. I guess the combination of being French and The Joey Burns (Calexico ) sound : Whispery vocals in French or with French accent and the dark waltz production: Slow haunting brushes accompanied with upright basses and acoustic instruments. Amor Naim writes great songs and knows what he wants and how he should sound. He was involved in many highly acclaimed projects like Neko Case, Devotchka

Trouble weighs a ton

March 5th, 2009

Pat, drummer and one half of the Black Keys said that they can make things sound big and fucked up at the same time and that is something I always tried to achieve. Dan Auerbach, lead singer and guitarist has released a solo album. Check out this acoustic lullaby.

Fever

March 5th, 2009

My friend Amos ( I wont say a music feak cause last time, when I wrote that he wasn’t pleased ), sent me a link of this real interesting song from the beautiful Karin Dreijer, half of “The knife“, a Swedish duo. She calls herself Fever Ray and the 2chord song is a weird electronic 16th note sequenced synth bassed groove, kick and clap and string line and a unique vocal on top. There are Fuck buttons remixes and an amazing video from Martin De Thura. Check out the song and the clip here on Lofiles.

Hello Love

March 4th, 2009

This is my favorite band. The be good Tanyas is the reason I have started this blog to begin with, Their music had filled me with inspiration and made me want to listen to more music in this genre and opened me to a different direction. Their music and sound is so unique, Acoustic, minmal, dark dry Banjo, acoustic and classical guitar, drums played with brushes, upright bass, kinda off vocals with tons of fill. Chinatown is one of my favorite alt folk albums. For those of you who appreciate Prince, this is a Tantyas cover of When Doves cry

Nobody

March 3rd, 2009

Growing up in Tehran, Iran during the Iranian Revolution, Ali Eskandarian found strength in music. “I was always around music,” he explains. “It’s hard to find an Iranian party without dancing and singing. The Islamic revolution has not been successful in trying to stop people from having a good time. Listen to “Nobody”

Andre Burke

March 3rd, 2009

After recording over a period of six years, Blake Leyh was prompted to finish and release the record after violinist Andre Burke passed away from HIV-related illness in June 2007.
Blake Leyh is a Composer, Sound Designer, and Music Supervisor who lives in New York City
Blake about Andre Burke: I’ve been thinking a lot about Andre’s violin playing the last few months. Thinking about how I, as a composer, could give Andre a few scrawls on a piece of staff paper, and he would give me back music. Music infused with emotion, with attitude, with life. Composing is often regarded as somehow “above” mere musicianship, a higher form of artistic expression. But with Andre, his violin could always transform a simple, even trite, idea into a rich and seductive landscape. Milonga Del Zero

Sea wolf

March 3rd, 2009

Allthough 2 of Sea wolf songs were featured in commercials ( GM and Radio Shack) and they are quite popular, and I usually don’t write about popoular acts ( cause they don’t really need me, I mean, more than million plays at myspace) I want to acknowledge this band, actually Alex Brown Church project. They got those minor acoustic ongs that I love that fit the stormy grey stay inside weather. This song I carry around in my Ipod is one of the most abused ones in days like this.Sweet little song..

The space between

March 2nd, 2009

Space is the place’ – space is the first thing I listen to when I hear a track – listen to what is not being played. This should be the title of this Dubstep compilation ” Dubstep Allstars: Vol 06- Mixed by Appleblim. From Bristol To Berlin, this is the best dubstep collection – minmalistic w Jamaican bass, delays, Detroit groove and lots of space.  Cheeky Herbert-Komonazmuk & Gatekeeper (Special shout out to DJ  Gal Offer for introducing this album to me )

All too soon

March 2nd, 2009

Dealing with our Seattle release these days, makes me think a lot about Chuck. His favorite singer was Peggy Lee and I never understood why. You know, me coming from a different musical background and ignoring traditional pop music. I have just found a 45 by Peggy Lee “All too soon” by Peggy Lee accompanied by DaveBarbour & his orchestra. Listen to this perfect vocalist. All too soon
