Death in Vegas

April 24th, 2009

I love this song by Death in Vegas. Actually, Scorpio rising is not a typical Death in Vegas album, and really was a change in direction for this electronic band. I always try to play this song while DJing alternative music nights, although it`s been released in 2002.

I never Knew

April 24th, 2009

Charlie Christian is one the first players to bring the lead electric guitar forward. During that time guitar was purely a rhythm instrument, but his single string technique brought the guitar out of the rhythm section. This is my favorite piece of this Jazz guitar story compilation.

Calling you

April 24th, 2009

A criminal lawyer, a mother of three, born in Indiana, Jevetta Steele is the voice behind Calling you”, the song you`ll know if you have seen this movie – Bagdad café. A German film directed by Percy Adlon. (1987). A surreal comedy set in a truck stop café located in the middleof the Mojave desert. The café is visited by an odd bunch of characters. I loved that movie and this song makes me sad, but good sad, fills me with inspiration . I am dedicating this song to someone very special to me.

My top 120 movie page

April 18th, 2009

Check out my top 120

This is not a list of a NYU Film school graduate. It is not a list of an expert or someone that will talk to you about the lighting and the shooting angle or the long exposure of …. I grew up to a family that owned few movie theatres and I had lived my childhood working as a ticket vendor, an usher and a projectionist and I have seen several movies of that list over 100 times. This movie list is not a collection of the greatest or most significent or important movies of all times, those are just movies that I love, films that inspired me and made me think. Enjoy and send us your list please

Top 100 films

April 18th, 2009

My ex suggested I`ll try and write down my fav top 100 films. I have started thinking about it and wrote down few, and few more, and became obsessed with the whole thing. This is so much fun, it brings back all those memories and fills you up with inspiration. I have come up with my top 120 and want you to come up with yours and send it to us. This is an appetizer of my top 120 and I`ll post the whole list soon.

April 15th, 2009

This post is not about music, but it is about an artist that fills me up with happiness and inspiration. I have just purchased a book that was designed to the last detail by Austrian painter, graphic artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. In 1973, Hundertwasser had embarked on an exhibition tour to museums in Australia and New Zealand. He had a vision of creating a catalogue small enough for the exhibition visitors to carry around in their pockets or bags. He wanted it to include 98 high quality reproductions , using 6 special colors in addition to the usual four, together with gold and silver, and metal embossing in nine colors. He wanted it to have hard cover that he had designed and did the fonts himself. But no publishing house was prepared to produce it according to Hundertwasser`s high standards as they claimed they would only lose money because of the high production costs. But this guy, Joram Harel decided to release and produce it himself although everyone in the publishing business tried to scare him off. Hundertwasser had told him that people would fall inlove with this small treasure and so it was. The book sold 750000 copies in eighteen editions through exhibitions and direct sales, without no marketing strategies and sales representitieves. In 1983 Mr. Harel decided not to publish the book anymore, although the demand was still very lively. I have just purchased a copy that was released as a part of a special edition for Hundertwasser 80th birthday.
About his art: Hundertwasser says that his work, the work of graphic art, is much harder than the work of a painter, because a painter has full control of his work, being just the paper, canvas etc and him. A graphic artist is depending on machines, printers and technologies. He says that the printed result is never quite what you imagined. According to H. the artist has too much responsibility to shrug off the ignorance of the masses with his work of art. Hundertwasser was fighting against straight lines, which according to him destroyed individuality by the fact that a straight line is a straight line and they all resemble – he criticized modern architecture and claimed it to be inhuman. One should see his work to understand what it does to me. I would never be able to explain his work to its full extent so I`d rather show you examples and hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Kurt Wagner live solo on Lolive

April 12th, 2009

Kurt Wagner`s ( Lambchop) solo intimate show at Barbie was great. I videotaped him for you with my tiny Nikon still camera. Sorry for the poor quality. New on Lolive

April 12th, 2009

Saw him play on a street fair. 8 string guitar made for him, with 2 extra bass strings, reminded me of a latin Jose Gonzalez, originaly from Argentina, traveling around and now in Israel, Lautaro Feldman sounds good. He says his 8 string classical guitar and its sound give him inspiration. Listen to Trampa

St Vincent

April 5th, 2009

I believe the thought behind the choice of Ann Clark`s new album cover – a cheesy looking closeup on her face was to get 46 comments as of today on her Stereogum new album review. To tell you the truth I couldn’t care less, I just love this rehearsal`s video and I love this lofi song. Check it out
