Bob Schneider

April 2nd, 2009

Bob Schneider is kind of an institution in Austin, Texas. He has often been billed as “the next big thing” in alt-country/rock-pop music and has built a large, loyal following through years of touring. It is a believable scenario that Schneider is simply content as a big fish in the pond that is Austin, but it is also realistic to believe that he is still just a couple steps away from exploding on a large-scale national level.Sonically, He blends multiple genres…country, rock, pop and even hip-hop and funk. He tells honest-to-a-fault stories in his songs. Listen to him Live on The Laundromatinee) Listen to this pure beauty – classical guitar and vocal. You could watch that as well on Vimeo

Dukes of Stratosphere

During the ’80s XTC recorded a couple of albums as psychedelic ’60s pop outfit the Dukes of Stratosphear. Andy Partridge is now reissuing them on his own label, Ape House. Listen to those guitars.

Ape house

April 1st, 2009

I love XTC`s album Skylarking. The main man behind this great band is Andy Partridge. I have just realized that he is the main man behind Ape house. This is what Andy is saying about Ape house:…” My aim is to bring you projects by myself and a host of interesting works by artists, writers and musicians that I admire. My dream being that eventually Ape will be a name synonymous with invention and quality”…
The Ape house site got a fascinating podcast and blog sections talking about music, music and the making ofgreat music. Highly recommended

Delta blues

April 1st, 2009

A soft spoken man, his nature reflected on his music, which remained a mellow mix of blues, country, blues and old time music till his last day. Tom Hoskins, a folk musicologist had discovered John Mississippi Hurt 3 years before his death and encouraged him to move to Washington DC, and that was the breakthrough of his career although he was playing, writing and singing since 1910. I just bought a live disc of his that has a nice collection of songs called “Make me a pallet”.
