Volcano choir

August 13th, 2009

Volcano coir is the side project of Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and his friends from Collection of Colonies of Bees. This is a Bon Iver track that has a totally different mood and background to it. Sounds like a Bon Iver meets Animal collective track.

Fusion – Tortoise

August 12th, 2009

I have heard them on Drag city projects with David Pajo and Bonnie prince Billy. I have just seen “Don’t look down” – the roof sessions of Pitchfork t.v and loved this fusion instrumental piece.

Woodhands

August 12th, 2009

Woodhands is dirty electronic music. “Potentially huge. The singer plays a keytar and looks like a deranged Elvis Costello. Their MySpace has a brilliant version of Electric Aveneue, and they did a killer cover of I Kissed A Girl.” -Simon Raymonde, Bella Union Records owner. Toronto electro-duo Woodhands is back! The band has started into a set of tour dates in the US armed with a new remix of Peter Bjorn & John’s song “Nothing.” They are also looking forward to performing at this year’s Monolith Festival at Red Rocks. Woodhands is currently working on the followup to their celebrated debut from last spring, Heart Attack. The album will be called Remorsecapade and is due out on Paper Bag Records later this year.

Milk & Honey

August 10th, 2009

Their Myspace page it says ..”We are a two piece band from Baltimore. We be knowin each other til Armageddon”… I am intrigued with their sound. This song ( its not typical to this album ) by Wye Oak remind me of Mi & l`au. Dark, slow and haunting, textures are real nice, guitar drowns and feedbacks and the whole nine… Check it out. I have bought “Milk & Honey”, their last recording venture from E music yesterday and haven’t stopped listening to it since.

Rated O

August 10th, 2009

Have been fascinated by this Oneida album. Oneida is a band from Brooklyn. The band includes Kid Millions on drums & vocals, Bobby Matador on organ, guitar & vocals, Hanoi Jane – guitar & bass and Shahin Motia on guitar. T his is a wonderfull addictive mixture of noise, groove, electronica, grunge, hypnotic repetetitive music, ragged distorted sounds, verything we love in a band. They have released a triple album called Rated O. Blew my head. Buy it!!!

Aaron Parks

August 8th, 2009

Somebody once asked me to find two words that describe the music I make, and the words I picked were ‘spontaneous’ and ‘cinematic,'” says Aaron Parks. Having clarified the essence of his art, the pianist kept those two words closely in mind while conceiving and recording Invisible Cinema, his extraordinary debut for the Blue Note label. In its virtuosity and harmonic complexity, Invisible Cinema speaks to Parks’s immersion in jazz on the highest level, even as it references a wider world of contemporary music-making.

“The title has a lot of different meanings,” notes the 24-year-old Seattle native, who is currently based in Brooklyn. “For one thing, Invisible Cinema is what music is, in a sense. You can’t see it. But there’s all this drama between the musicians, all these stories that can be told. Also, I was thinking about actual cinema, and this album has a story line that I wouldn’t spell out to anybody, because I want to leave it open to interpretation. But for me there’s a narration in the sequence and song titles and everything.” Of his bio section..
