Modern dance club

August 6th, 2009

Charlie Megira is my man. I mean, he`s theeeeee man, the main man. A mysterious guitar hero, a lofi character, that appears once in a few years and releases a masterpiece, performs in rock & roll dumps and then disappears again. Accompanied by the ultra talented female drummer singer rocker kick a.. Michal Kahan, ( check out a previous post about her) they formed The Modern dance club and these days they release Love police, demanding 53 minutes of music, to challenge your great taste, considering you are regulars at Lofiles. I have chosen to play you a little something of Love police and a live video from this ground floor apartment converted into a s…hole club called the Zimmer.By the way, I dont know why, but he makes me think of King Kahn. Another hero of mine

The Octopus Project “Wet Gold” official video

August 6th, 2009

Austin four-piece The Octopus Project are excited to reveal their brand new video for “Wet Gold,” one of the featured videos on their brand new Golden Beds Enhanced EP (Peek-A-Boo Records), which includes five different tunes and seven brand new videos! Josh Lambert in the band talks about the making of the video: “…it was wet and cold! We filmed it in Galveston a couple of months after the hurricane hit, so it was pretty devastated. The whole city (specifically the beach) was filled with debris and completely ripped up buildings — totally creepy. There was a pretty gnarly fog that day as well, so it only added to the eeriness. Making the video was a blast! Yvonne spent a couple of days learning semaphore and was spelling out “Wet Gold” when we filmed it. I’ve never been colder in my life. Standing in the ocean all day long in the middle of January wouldn’t be first on my list of things to do in the future, but we had a ton of fun nonetheless!”

Kalman Balogh & the gipsy cimbalom band

August 2nd, 2009

Kalman Balogh is one of the foremost Hungarian cimbalom players, descending from a famous dynasty of Hungarian Gipsy musicians. His virtuosity is matched by his understanding and respect of his heritage. A graduate of Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music of Budapest, he has completed many successful tours throughout the world with various ensembles. His instrument, the so-called cimbalom, is a sort of oversized hammer dulcimer played with mallets like a vibraphone, possesses piano like percussive abilities to drive a band rhythmically or take the melodic lead. In Balogh Kálmán’s expert hands, the cimbalom can do both simultaneously. Balogh continues a fabled European music tradition harking back to the collaboration of masters like gipsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli, connecting ancient folk music traditions of Central and Eastern Europe with the chord progressions and swing of jazz.
