Lofiles Vol 1

March 24th, 2010

We are very proud to present LOFILES VOL 1, a collection of tracks and artists that moved us, and we are honored to include all those talents, some are known and some are less known, for your listening pleasure (even if demanding at times). We have chosen  artists and music that challenge your ears and mind, and keep you thinking way after listening, like a great movie, that makes a great impression on you and stays with you for a long time.

To access the lovely pop up player designed by SHS, click on the funky pink ghettoblaster widget on the right handside menu under ‘Recent posts’ category. To download the whole comp as a mixtape go HERE. To view additional info about the artists and credits, go to the compilations section on the main left handside menu.

Elephant parade

March 23rd, 2010

One of the first posts, when I have started the Lofiles venture, was about this lofi shy couple that I love, personality wise and needless to mention, musically. I saw ‘Elephant parade’ live few times and was touched by the intimacy of their performance, felt their shyness, almost embarrassment of being on stage, and enjoyed their simple wonderful songs. What started as a real bedroom project, has developed to a mature band/ duo. Check out their graphics too.

The Binary marketing show

March 23rd, 2010

All reviews of ‘The Binary marketing show’ are mentioning Animal Collective as a heavy duty influence on the sound of this great Brooklyn band, but don’t underestimate BMS. This is a serious band, and I urge you to listen to ‘Shape of your head‘ just to understand what`s the buzz they create is all about.

Breathe the fire

March 15th, 2010

Luis Vasquez is The soft moon. I have just heard his latest single, Breathe the fire, a great, dark 80`s like tune. Love at first sound, on Captured tracks, home of Woods, Little girls, Dum dum girls and the Bitters. Check it out, bet you`ll love it.

Dictaphones vol 1

March 13th, 2010

About Emit Bloch:…” Recorded for £6 on a Sony cassette dictaphone as a demo for his soon-to-be music publishers (MuteSong), Emit Bloch’s’ Dictaphones Vol. 1’ is truly a credit-crunch album. Fueled by Bloch’s rapid-fire lyricism, unique guitar styling and cosmic/comic imagery, the 16 songs collected here are a tour through a wild west of eloquent grifters, talking rivers, bleeding clouds, interplanetary frontiersmen and neighborly psychopaths. Born on a cattle ranch in Utah and transplanted by his professor father to Berkeley, CA – ground zero for all things beatnik – Bloch has a rich history to draw on when creating his distinct American music”…

That`s what he is saying: “I’d demoed these new songs at my kitchen table in London. They got me a publishing deal and some money to record with. As usual, the raw demos sounded better than the studio recordings, but quite unusual everyone agreed to put them out instead,” says Bloch. Helpful was the fact that when an early edition of the dictaphone recordings was issued to iTunes through Blochs imprint, iDot (via One Little Indian), the recordings were chosen by iTunes editors as a front page pick.

I love his songs, clever lyrics, his unique finger picking, his phrasing and this cheapo Sony Dictaphone sound. Buy the album – out on One little Indian April 5th. I just got a promo copy of ‘Dictaphones vol 1’. Listen to the wonderful Trees

New Audio Bullys

March 12th, 2010

After two years of stuttering, Audio Bullys had sprung back to life, the fourteen tracks of Higher Than The Eiffel laid down in that six month period. Album three, the album that had seemed so impossible previously, was duly finished and ready for action. More than a collection of like-minded tunes, more than a selection of beats to be played intermittently in DJ sets, this was the real deal, an album of highs and lows, a collation of influences from those classic songwriters through the myriad dance musics of funk, house and techno with a good dose of punk attitude and electro beats where electronics or live instrumentation took their place when it felt right rather than because that was how things had been done before.

Album now complete, the pair cannot wait to unleash it on the public and are looking forward to getting back in front of people live. Whilst there have been DJ sets in the meantime and a rare live showing in London, March sees Tom and Si take Higher Than The Eiffel on the road in the UK and they can’t wait.

‘We want to get back to that live thing and the buzz that goes around a live gig is a lot more fun than Djing where, no matter what you’ve done, there isn’t a focus. we really want this album to be presented live’.

Not long to wait but for now, welcome back Audio Bullys, stronger and wiser than before and back doing what they do best, making music for the joy of making music and sharing it with others. Let’s leave the last word to Si, with what pretty much is the Audio Bullys new manifesto, from ‘We Don’t Care’ to ‘We Do Care’ if you will. It’s been a long wait but Si and Tom are back

‘I love making tunes and that’s what keeps me alive, if we’ve made something that gives me a buzz that’s why you do it. We almost had to make a few things that didn’t work to remind us what it is that drives us. At times you start to think it’s easy to make music but it isn’t and it’s about capturing a moment and we’ve done that on this album’. Listen to Only man Reset! Remix.
