The Romany Rye Daytrotter sessions

May 28th, 2010

THE ROMANY RYE will join Delta Spirit this summer for an extensive North America tour that launches on June 7th at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, CA. Highlights include two shows in New York – June 30th at Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom and July 1st at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn – and a performance at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre on July 23rd.

Tipped by Kings of Leon’s Matthew Followill as the new band to watch in NME’s 2010 New Music issue (a sentiment echoed by Matt Costa on jambands.com), THE ROMANY RYE is touring in support of its debut album, Highway 1, Looking Back Carefully, an intimate collection of songs penned by former Colour guitarist Luke MacMaster. The singer-songwriter produced and recorded the album along with Delta Spirit’s Kelly Winwrich and the two were joined in the studio by a group of friends that included Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), David Quon (We Barbarians) and Blake Mills. Shortly after completing the album, MacMaster put together the band now known as THE ROMANY RYE, inviting Judson Spillyards, Joshua Spillyards and Ryan Hitt from Christopher Denny’s former backing band, The Natives, to join him. FM

May 27th, 2010

Reykjavik-based electro-pop trio FM Belfast recently debuted a brand new video for their single  “Underwear off the band’s US debut How to make friends, out now on Kimi Records.  Directed by DANIELS (production duo Daniel Scheinert and Dan Kwan), the video features heavily-manipulated footage of interchangeably manic, bumbling and joyous solo dancers (Ani Raya-Flores, James Mackey and Marilyn Heidecker), inevitably culminating with them in their underwear.
FM Belfast is currently in the midst of a European tour, hitting up festivals across the continent, and will return to the US later this year.

Lovesick

May 26th, 2010

You know, when you listen to tons of music for years, and countless songs, and you write some yourself, one of the most exciting moments are when you come up with a cool change, and second best is when you listen to one. That`s what ‘Bear in Heaven’ did with ‘Lovesick Teenagers’, and they got the job done. Not a typical BIH song, but we like it..

Frazey Ford

May 26th, 2010

‘Chinatown’, The Be good Tanyas 2003 album, changed something in me and my approach to music. This dark, minimalistic, amazing alt country album by the Canadian trio really got me. I can’t really explain why I was so moved, but it drew me closer again to the biggest passion in my life, and I believe their music is what started the Lofiles project going. Anyhow, the Tanyas, continue to make great music, and this gorgeous one is from Frazey Ford, their lead singer. Her debut, Obadiah, is due on Jul 20th on Nettwerk, and this is Firecracker, with special thanks to AA again.

By the way I know I have been slow lately, but I got a good excuse; I am working on some original music again, so hopefully I`ll have something to play you guys soon….

Firecracker

May 23rd, 2010

This summer the New Orleans, LA based noise pop duo, Caddywhompus, will be touring cross-country in support of their sophomore album ‘Remainder’. Released on May 11th, 2010 via Community Records, the album is a reflection of the bands energetic live performance and the explosive chemistry that exists between founding members Chris Rehm (guitar/vocals) and Sean Hart (drums). Wanting to stay consistent with their D.I.Y. work ethic, Rehm and Hart completely self produced and engineered the entirety of ‘Remainder’ in New Orleans. Wanting their music to have a more immediate impact, and reach a further number of listeners, the duo is currently offering up the entirety of ‘Remainder’ as a free download on the Community Records band page

Rehm and Hart have been playing music together since their middle school days and established Caddywhompus in September of 2008. In just two short years they’ve earned national recognition for their live performances, which include a daunting assortment of amplifiers, effects-pedal tweakery, impeccable musicianship, and a commanding live presence. Song structures alternate between sweet psychedelic indie ballads to the most intense, ear splitting of noise-driven crescendos. They’ve since toured and shared the stage with nationally touring acts like: Zach Hill, The Antlers, Japanther, Cursive, Wavves, GIVERS, Tera Melos, A Sunny Day in Glasgow, and Math The Band. The band’s new video for the song “Guilt”, which was produced and directed by Neko Neko Films, is released just in time for their summer jaunt. The quick two minute video reimagines a live performance of the band as a blissed out, mushroom-tripping joyride. A perfect introduction to a band set on waging war on America’s highway system this summer.

Woven Bones extends tour, streams album & premieres new video

May 23rd, 2010

Since the beginning, Woven Bones have primarily been the brainchild of singer/guitarist Andrew Burr from the point where their primordial ooze first seeped into our sphere of peripheral vision. After uprooting from Orlando in 2008 and settling in Austin, Texas last year, followed by touring the darkest corners of the underground stratosphere, their seedy and insidiously slithered drawl has fully come to a head, summoning the the pulse-pounding power to stand all hairs on-end. As bassist Matty and recently recruited drummer Carolyn have completed the fold, Woven Bones need no announcement to herald their arrival, but as their irresistibly iridescent hazy pop grime drills itself deeper into your soft skull, it’s best to just stand back and experience them exploding out of your speakers.

Like the eardrum-shattering noise pop icons that came before them, Woven Bones blaze their own trail of lascivious loudness and controlled snarl that’s just what the world needs right now, and the perfect soundtrack to your screwed-up summer. The debut album, In and Out and Back Again delivers nine heart-stabbing hits that just keep hitting back, so without further hesitation, we give you the debut album that explodes heads on contact, by your new favorite band, Woven Bones.

Screaming Females announce extended tour dates, finish new album

May 21st, 2010

New Jersey’s Screaming Females have been on the road for the majority of the year so far, and tonight launch another tour that will have them out on the road ’til the end of June, meeting up with Ted Leo again for the last eight dates of the tour. Somewhere along the way the band found time to hole up in their studio and complete their fourth full-length album, Castle Talk, which will see the light of day on Sept. 14 via Don Giovanni Records.

2009 will go down as the year that everyone-EVERYONE-started to take notice of Screaming Females in the wake of the release of their third LP (and their first on a label of any kind), Power Move (Don Giovanni, April, 2009). From their first TV appearances (dancing with puppets on Chicago’s cult public access TV show, “Chic-a-Go-Go”, then making their national TV debut as a musical guest on MTV’s “It’s On! With Alexa Chung”), first multi-page national print media press and having lead Female Marissa Paternoster be named “Best Shredder in New York City 2009” by the Village Voice to being the band that everyone from Dinosaur Jr., Throwing Muses, Dead Weather and Arctic Monkeys personally asked to tour with, 2009’s been quite the weird and exciting year for Screaming Females. After all, they’re doing exactly what they’ve done, the way they’ve always done it…organically, with friends. It’s just that now all of these people are noticing how amazing they are. And they can, y’know, quit their day jobs in lieu of touring all the time and recording new material with both their own band and their side projects because of it. Amen to that, right?

Craig Wedren of Shudder To Think Releases New Single with Pocket (remixer for Radiohead)

May 21st, 2010

Craig Wedren & Richard Jankovich (aka Pocket) Unveil New Single & Video “Someone To Run Away From” .

“My dream of a world where R&B hooks get with dreamy gauze-pop for the lunar, mainly slo-jam radio station that my lady and I would like to have streaming in our perfect-world bedroom,” says Shudder to Think frontman Craig Wedren. “Someone To Run Away From,” Wedren’s new collaboration with friend and acclaimed remix artist Richard Jankovich (Radiohead, Joanna Newsom, Beck), “reminds me of High School in D.C., when the cherry blossoms were popping, and I was surely falling. I love this song, and I thank Richard for bringing me in.”
