Chills

January 25th, 2011

Its not a coincidence this concert took place at the Glenn Gould studio. A madman to madman, Glenn Gould and Chilly Gonzales, 2 piano monsters, the latter has been our favorite for quite some time, and this CBC concert is a must for fans and passer bys. Its starts with some serious solo piano ala Erik Satie and continues with monologues, rap and some singing. For those of you who don’t know the monster; ..” Chilly Gonzales (a.k.a. Gonzales, a.k.a. Jason Beck) is a musical chameleon. He’s a pianist with serious classical chops, who sounds like Erik Satie and also puts out electronica records. On other records he raps, he sings, and collaborates with the likes of Feist, Peaches, Mocky and Buck 65 on some of their best-known work. He grew up in Montreal, tried a Canadian music career there and in Toronto, found himself artistically in Berlin and now lives in Paris“…

Sidi Touré

January 22nd, 2011

Sidi Touré made his first guitar as a child, constructing it from his wooden writing slate in the ancient town of Gao, Mali. In 1976, Touré became the youngest member of Gao’s regional orchestra, the Songhaï Stars, who played bi-annual festivals like the Bamako Biennale and toured both regionally and nationally. In 1984, he won the award for best singer for “Manou Tchirey,” a song of his own, written in the Songhaï language. As a young man, he would often be listening to J.J. Cale and Kenny Rogers. Sidi’s sound both captures and challenges his roots.. At its heart, ‘Sahel Folk’ is an album of friends reuniting around a glass of tea. It’s Sidi Touré’s second album, but the first time most of his collaborators have been documented. Chronicled in a live “field-recording” style at Sidi’s sister’s house, the simplicity of the takes highlight the beauty of the songs and the skill of the players. Each track on the album is a duet recording of Sidi and one friend, a product of a very specific two-day process. On the first day, the friends would meet, play, and choose a song over a glass of tea. On the second day they would record the song, allowing themselves just two takes to retain the spontaneity of the recording and reunion.

Blake Mills

January 22nd, 2011

This is the weekend, and for a change, unlike prior weekends, I am trying to regain strength and energy, thus to get some rest, get my head cleaned. This song has a Bon Iver twist to it, although it is an Americana pop folkish jam, and something about it grabbed my attention and made spin it more than once. The 2nd upbeat part has a Fleetwood Mac`s Rumors color to it and I really dig this cheesy brassy chorus part. Blake Mills got an impressive resume already, and he is only 23 year old. He’s toured with the likes of Band Of Horses, Jenny Lewis, and Cass McCombs and has recorded as a session musician with Julian Casablancas, Andrew Bird, and.. Kid Rock

Atiba song

January 21st, 2011

Everybody writes about Panda bear, and it is our decision for the longest, not to write about songs you are going to find out on every site. Not to say we don’t appreciate nor love his doings or Animal collective`s, but usually we try to expose the hidden. The only difference this time is that his new song got this clip using this new Panasonic SLR new camera, and personally, it interests us. This was shot by the Lumix GH2 DSLR, full HD, only compressed for web needs. Enjoy both.

God only knows

January 21st, 2011

After Bowie did his version of ‘God only knows’, originally, a Beach boys song, I have found it hard to believe someone will cover this song and get away with it. You got to admit Kiersten Holine did a great job with this bare acoustic version, and we likkkkkkke it.

Reversing falls

January 21st, 2011

I Needed something with a little bit more energy than our day to day relaxants. Reversing Falls is a little poppy, but has the rockin edge we demand, and with the level knob all the way up to 11, Party Martyr got the job done.
