Our day

January 20th, 2011

Rachel Grimes`s score to Our Day, a film by Wallace Kelly, brought the Kelly family back to life, and filled this little 16mm homemade black and white silent movie with colorful tones. Our day is a portrait of the Kelly family in Lebanon, Kentucky, and documents a home inhabited by adults with sophisticated interests and simple pleasures, and captures suburban Southern life during the depression in a vivid way. Kelly was an accomplished painter, photographer and writer. He began shooting his film in 1929 and continued till the 50`s.

Don’t let Christa & Sarah formerly of Sleep Over, currently Boyfriend, blur your vision with the hazy soundscape and atmosphere, Cause D`Arrest is the real shit.

I like ‘At last’, a track by The Do, this French-Finnish indie pop act, especially Olivia (she`s so cute, the type you marry and even get a bonus, in house singer)

At Last

The moon is gone

January 15th, 2011

Sometimes, only sometimes, especially when life gets too complicated, we like listening to pure sweet pop. This rainy afternoon is one of those days, and this song AZ sent me, which was KCRW`s top tune couple of weeks ago, a track by Frenchman Ernest Saint Laurent, a musician/ producer, who started his own label Fluid System in the early 2000`s, a remixer of acts like Zero 7, The Avalanches, Grace Jones, and lately, scoring for TV and movies. The track is called ‘The moon is gone’, good for cloudy nights like this, and you should try to cherish the moment cause we wont be serving more sweets in the near future.

Twixt Now and Sunrise

January 15th, 2011

Our old buddy cheapo lofi master Dan Deacon is set to score New Francis Ford Coppola film. We wrote about Bromst awhile back and just as a reminder stream Wet wings Here.

As the newsletter states, “Dan Deacon has been tapped by Francis Ford Coppola to score his next film, Twixt Now and Sunrise, due later this year. The gothic romance stars Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Ben Chaplin & Elle Fanning. In addition to scoring the film, Mr. Coppola and Mr. Deacon are collaborating on a larger level, details of which will be announced soon”.

Happy hookers

January 15th, 2011

Sorry for the short break we took, taking care of business, spending few days in this religion heavily soaked town… really glad to be back, love Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers, and this is of the album ‘Teenage and torture’, a title I could really identify with, for those of you that were not as blessed as others. ‘Teenage and torture’ is out on Knitting factory records.

Its not your imagination

Winnipeg is known as the “Heart of the Continent.” On the prairies, there is always new music being made: Imaginary Cities was born in a club called The Cavern, in between sets. This new group, (consists of the Marti Sarbit and Rusty Matyas) founded in a chance meeting is now readying to introduce their debut album, Temporary Resident in early 2011 on Hidden pony.

Ghoul`s out

Thinguma*jigsaw  define their artistic niche or genre as Splatterfolk. That means, combining influences from the darker domains of Irish/British/American/Scandinavian folk-music with contemporary art music. We don’t argue with them about that, and they sound real nice, at least the 2 songs we have heard through NFOP`s Hypem, coming from their latest recording ‘Ghoul`s out’. (Listen to ‘Ghoul`s out‘ & ‘The perfidious Sarcophagus’)

Academy Records masterfully curated ‘Obsession’, a compilation released last decade, and off this wonderful collection we bring you one of most beautiful Arabesque voices in 70’s in Turkey, Ersen, a song we heard on Aqurium Drankard.

Monster Rally is the 23 year old Columbus (Ohio) resident and Cleveland native Ted Feighan recording venture out on Gold Robot records . Making sampled-based tropical pop, Monster Rally began with the goal of assembling a bunch of old records into a completely different beast.
