I see it comin

November 30th, 2011

Lately, I have been watching Yours Truly live sessions and was blown away by the amazing quality of their video work. YT are the American answer to Vincent Moon and his Take away shows. As I saw today I am not the only one blown away by the results of their work. Apparently ‘Gaurds’share my opinion and were honored while being asked to do a session for YT. So this is the result, a great session and a great song filmed At McAvoy Ohara Evergreen Mortuary. Watch “I See It Coming”

Elvis Depressedly OR Graceland OR Matt Cothran has done it again…and again..and again

November 29th, 2011

Coma cinema’s Matt Cothran has been releasing a lofi bedroom trilogy lately titled ‘Death 2 America’ under the pseudonym Elvis Depressedly. If you love Coma Cinema’s music as much as we do, actually, even if you have never heard Matt’s stuff before, you are going to dig this project. The first bunch of songs under this moniker was released in August , 5 tracks he had titled ‘Save the planet kill yourself’, which is different and darker than the other 2 releases and the Coma cinema stuff you are used too, sounds like Matt meets Tricky, just lighter on the low end. ‘Goner’ continues where Coma Cinema’s last release has left you– consists of 5 tracks and was released in October, and the lovely ‘Disgraceland’, released couple of weeks ago. Elvis’s music was recorded at his new pad in Columbia. Lllllllllovely. Brought to our attention and ears by the one and only Hannah Baker who is joining the Lofiles small team. All for name your price type of deal, or if you are cheap, available for free download. I would spare few bucks to make sure Matt continues to fill us with inspiration.

The village to the vale

November 25th, 2011

Autumn chorus write about their debut: ..” Largely mixed and produced by the band, every song had been picked apart during the recording process to ensure that every note was there for a reason, and that more importantly each song had heart”…Their debut reminds me of progressive rock music albums I grew up listening to, in the vein of Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, ELP and many great others. They are telling a story, and the album is a one piece should be listened to as a whole, not just one great song or a single. From the opening piece you know that you are onto something different, and if you have lost your attention span because everything today is about headlines and titles and brief introductions and 70 note tweets, continue and look for immediate art cause this band took the time and you had better sit down, light up a fat joint, put your expensive headphones on and let them carry you away.

Sultans of Swing

November 25th, 2011

We were busy filming a little documentary today about Django music’s followers, our Sultans of swing, a band we love and respect, and we have been following their career for quite some time now. The name of the band Swing De Gitanes and expect a lovely documentary real soon only on Lofiles.org

TanGod

November 25th, 2011

Daniel Melingo is major musician. He studied at a Conservatoire but retains little of that institution. A bohemian of Buenos Aires. We can call him Maestro because he has achieved simplicity. Just listen to his Tangos and you’ll understand why. These songs of his hold as much adoration as irreverence. There is a truckload of orthodoxy and tons of heresy. Love and mockery. Pure tango: The wonderful madness of Melingo. If you happen to be in Paris tonight go and see those two giants, Frahm and Melingo, Full detais HERE, man, what a show…and you got to listen to this Tango, its wonderful.

Corazon and Hueso

Southbound

November 24th, 2011

I have heard Sea Oleena doing vocals on the Tristan O’Donnell project I have covered few days ago and then out of curiousity I explored her tumblr and discovered this real pretty gem, music she wrote for Lindsay Nicole Eller for a short lofi film about a trip she took from Maine to Asheville North Carolina and back up. The painting is Lindsay’s and if you like you could find many beautiful others HERE

EN NUESTROS VIAJES

November 22nd, 2011

I am not really a Jazz music fan (Actually you could call most jazz fans I know fanatics, cause they are really into it and are extremely emotional about it and take criticism as if it is a personal offense). Since I have started reviewing music on Lofiles exactly 3 years ago, I have published 1400 posts, and I think only 5 of which were about jazz music. Sometimes, all that knowledge these Jazz cats do have is too much for me to grasp, the ignorant peasant I am. But why do I exhaust you with the long intro. This is the extremely rare occasion where I Actually wanted you listen to this Jazz record I like, even if you are not a jazz fan/atic. Its called ‘EN NUESTROS VIAJES’, (released 6 months ago) and this is a dialogue between 2 very talented musicians, (I called it a dialogue cause judging by the way this record sounds they really listen and respect one another).

Matt Davis plays the guitar and Javier Resendis plays the Rhodes. Cassette is out on the Galtta record label/ Studio and available at their shop or could be downloaded digitally only for 5$.

Were you ever kissed by a lizard?

November 21st, 2011

Tiny Island Teeth was written and recorded in Lizard kisses’s Brooklyn apartment during the summer of 2011. This is one of those minimalistic bedroom recording ventures we love so much. Cakes and Tapes is responsible for the physical release- a limited edition of 50 cassette tapes.

Tiny Island Teeth was recorded with a handful of LK’s artists and friends. Among them are: Charlotte Oleena, Ellen Johansing, Marie Clerel, Jordan Lee, Matt Dallow plus an accompanying cassette was self-released simultaneously with Tiny Island Teeth, titled Tooth Notes. Tooth Notes is a collection of demos for Tiny Island Teeth, recorded with one microphone straight to tape. You can listen to that Here
