Read my LIPS

We are excited. It seems like we come across real dope tracks quite often lately, and discover all those great artists. One of them is New Zealand’s keyboard player/ programmer Stephanie Brown who started a new musical venture; Lips. ‘Ghosts and demons’, the new title from Stephanie has got it all. It got the sound, the dark atmosphere, the writing and performance. And I bet with you this is only the preface. That’s not the last thing you have heard from Lips. Check out this cool first track by SB

Tristan O’Donnell AKA Guilt Ghosts makes heavenly music with the sparse, unique and ‘just right’ use of guitar loops, delays, repetitious hypnotic riffs which he uses to slowly build up those little melodic pieces, occasionally lifted by sparse, simple and dry drum machine kick and snr patterns . Guilty Ghosts’s Veils has been my companion for the last couple of days and I got to the point that as a musician, I really envy Tristan for this clear vision he got, for the ability to foresee and deliver such a refined product, this ambient guitar record. He says on his bandcamp page: “Those songs are the kind fit for rainy days, everlasting evenings, and melancholy moments in solitude”..in other words…nowwwww. Name your price and help this real talented dude to continue and create more records like Veils. Purchase it HERE

Premiere: Benny Loco’s Set EP

November 19th, 2011

Benny Loco’s Set EP is coming out tomorrow, and since the release date falls 2 days prior to my birthday, I consider it as a gift. This is not the first time we mention this kid (we loved his remix for A.T.T.I.C and reviewed it few months ago).

Among his influences you could find the obvious gods, Kraftwerk, Tangerine dream, and J Dilla as well as Mux Mool, Eliot Lipp and Mike Slott. Set is the proof (if the ATTIC remix didn’t convince you) that BL could really make some dope atmospheric beat heavy melodic shit. He says…”This EP has been the culmination of work beginning earlier this as a follow up to my first LP, Just Some Beats, Vol. 1. It is my hope that it will give my listeners a window into what is to come from Benny Loco. This EP begins the transition from Just Some Beats to my forthcoming 2012 LP, Rise”…..

BL is not unfamiliar to the Electronic music scene. During the last 6 years he has been sharing the stage with the likes of Michal Menert, Dark Party, Paul Basic, Mux Mool, Eliot Lipp and The Coop to name but a few.

He would be playing a record release show with D.V.S* – former Boulder resident and acclaimed musician now living in Brooklyn (1320/Daly City) and Paul Basic (Pretty Lights Music) in Boulder, CO tomorrow at The Mountain Sun.

‘Ghost’ by Joel Robert Melton is a bedroom Masterpiece. Actually, even if he didnt record it in a bedroom, it still is a masterpiece. Those 8 songs are so sweet sounding, and these guitars, you got to listen to it.

This gorgeous gem was released on 01 January 2011 plus an option ..”For a limited time I am making these handmade packages for ‘Ghost’ on CD. Each one is completely unique, including the hand drawn artwork and layout. This is a completely DIY undertaking on my part, and that means laptop burned discs and recycled jewel cases (no fancy fresh bulk pressed stuff here folks). However, I do put a lot of time and love into the artwork and design, and I make each one special. No two packages will be exactly alike”….

…”all music written and produced by joel robert melton. This album was recorded in the Fierce creatures studio space & in Katie’s bedroom in Fresno, Ca. this album is dedicated to Jay Melton, my father, and to the memory of Christopher Rees, my friend”…

In a short period of merely 6 years, Liron Man has mastered his Hang instrument without proper guidance of a mentor or a tutor, mainly because of the simple fact this instrument is so rare and unique, and the shortage of masters is understandable.

Liron’s musical education has started early at the age of 4 while taking classical piano lessons for 7 years. As a teenager, naturally, he has picked up an electric guitar and took the rock, metal, and even some jazz route till he felt he needed to experiment with different music. At the age of 18, he has begun to play instruments such as Mandolin, Bouzouki, Nai flute and percussives and 2 years later he has discovered the Hang.

While listening and watching Liron playing This extraordinary musical instrument, you get to understand how dedicated to his music he is, and how much was accomplished in the relatively short period of 6 years, while Liron has developed an absolute technical command of the Hang, yet maintaining a very melodic and personal style of playing, full of emotion, and unlike other young masters I was exposed to, mature, confident and diverse, without the tendency of over trying to impress .

Lately he has discovered Flamenco music and the Flamenco guitar, and has relocated to the capital of Flamenco music in Andalusia, south of Spain,  Jerez de la Frontera, learning the art of Flamenco music. During the last few years he has collaborated with musicians such as Beatriz Morales, Bernardo Parillia, Fabio Tricomi, Fransisco Leon, Gema Moneo, Govinda Goswami and many others and has performed in world renowned Festivals such as Festival Flamenco in Jerez, Festival Alamar – Almeria, Spain and Festival Vibrato III in Elche, Spain. Last but not least, special thanks to the one and only Publicist/ Promoter Kerem Miron, were it not for her endless effort, this little article couldn’t have taken place.

This is a solo piece played in Tel Aviv, in the respectable hall of the Suzan Dalal cultural center.
