Jewellers Premiere

April 24th, 2012

Jewellers made my day. Their recent recording venture, ‘Lakeswimming’, was released yesterday, followed me today, on this crazy errand day. From the Jewellers mouth: We (Gareth Leaman and Gareth Young) come from the sunny (rhymes with funny) town of Newport, South Wales (UK) .we make music with warped samples, synths, noises and cut up beats and the odd guitar. And few words about this gorgeous hypnotizing creation:…””We started forming this album pretty much a year ago, just after we released ‘Sleep Education’. We aimed to move away from ambient soundscapes and sampled loops towards a more beat-driven, glitchy and warped sound. We got really excited when songs like Sing Trees were forming so wanted to make more of these upbeat and densely layered tracks”….I find this record truly inspiring, and more important, soothing. Their meditative journey is like a homeopathic medication for my borderline OCD behavior. I really abused ‘Thirty six’, the ultrafunky soulfull ‘Easier Together’, the beautiful sounding Statues, let me tell you something; a lot of work went into this mature album, and it is wel worth your attention and change, I mean, you could buy it only for 4 quid HERE. Haunted Dancehall

April 18th, 2012

In May 2011, Ela Orleans 16 track tape collection of lo-fi 4 track recordings called NEO PI-R was released on Clan Destine Records. The cassette sold out and had been re-released by Clan Destine Records on vinyl 12″ LP in December 2011. NEO PI-R  is sparse, and as Dafydd McKaharay (Mishka) describes the record ..”This is post-punk from the Gaslamp Era. Andrew Weatheral once titled a Sabres of Paradise album Haunted Dancehall, and that term is a perfect description of this tape. order it HERE

Dalton is the solo bedroom-project of Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter/ multi instrumentalist Nate Harar. He has just sent us a copy of his debut EP recorded in his apartment-studio and we are loving it. This is the last track off this record, and our favorite,  Animal.

Warm Blood

April 14th, 2012

Blithe Field puts forward the white voice of childhood and the misty layers of a late afternoon drawing out. The songs are brief, there’s the urgency of great dreams but also of doing well. “Warm Blood” is a collection of folding travel hymns to take away, landscapes visible to one’s eyes shut that make you wanna stretch out and stare. At the ceiling, the sky, both together. There’s the bitterness but also the sugary – and perhaps a bit ingenuous – taste of a first kiss.

This teenager -who we guess is not really a teenager anymore- is Spencer Radcliffe. After numerous releases from the labels Messy Life, Waaga… “Warm Blood” comes out April 12th on vinyl (black, pink, and clear) from Poulpe Mort.

For real

Le jeune Niall Galvin, accompagné de sa bande de potes londoniens, nous lâche son spleen teinté de blues et de hip-hop.

April 2nd, 2012

The Memories are set to release their debut self-titled LP on April 24th on Underwater Peoples. The songs are short, the melodies sweet, and the album is filles with flavours of surf rock, Motown and Stax in the early days, and some ’70s New York punk.
