I love the way this company describes their creation; “We take classic play forms from the past – be they physical folk games from the playground or adventure games from old consoles – and breathe new life into them with 21st century technology and our own sense of style and storytelling.”..

To tell you the truth, I know nothing about games, computer games, gamers, consoles…I never tried to play cause for some reason, it never worked for me. Everyone around me is addicted, but not me. I wanted to write about Die Gute Fabric because I admire their composer’s work. It is not the first time we mention This dear dear friend of ours, Alessandro Coronas. We have reviewed music he had composed for a game of theirs, and he had curated a magical mix for us 6 months ago, plus he is curating a special one for us as we speak. I wanted to share the music he had composed for this new game they are working on with you (Mutazione). Listen to this beauty, and notice the magical environment he had succeeded in creating (the ecosystem has been co-created with team mate Douglas Wilson), or according to their own words..” We’ve also been experimenting with the sound and melodies generated by the garden’s ecosystem. Take a listen:

Born Again For the First Time

June 28th, 2012

I wanted to exploit the opportunity to congratulate the guys at Digitalis on their new site and years of blessed activity. They decided to celebrate the holly occasion with the release of Born Again For the First Time, an extra ultra fine dedicated compilation . IN their own words:

In celebration of the fact that we finally (FINALLY!) redesigned the Digitalis label site for the first time in over 7 (!!!) years, we got together a huge group of some of our favorite bands & artists from Digitalis’ past, present, and future for a sweetforce compilation. This all came together pretty fast and it’s a true testament to the quality of all this contributors that so many came through with such killer tunes. This compilation will stand up to the best of them and hey, it’s free if you want it to be.

New/unreleased tracks from the following: Emuul, Discoverer, Charlatan, Bastian Void, seht, Hobo Cubes, Jerry Paper, Inez Lightfoot, SEEKERSINTERNATIONAL, Ossining, Rambutan, Milton Cross, Mohawk Park, Mass Ornament, Thug Entrancer, Panabrite, Paco Sala, Sagas, Sovetskaya Gone, Brainshadows, Oxykitten, Piotr Kurek, & Sweater Weather. Holy fuck.

Texas Forever

June 27th, 2012

Its called ‘2 days in June’. I am day dreaming again, about a cozy little place in the countryside, not too far from the city, a small cheesy room, a tiny bed…we don’t need a larger one just because we are tied up together real close. Everything around you slows down, fades away, and the only thing existing is what I sense and feel from you, your body, and what I see deep in your eyes, where your pain and fear disappears, and the demons that usually attack from within are being abandoned helpless. This is one day in June, and the 2nd one starts the morning after, with the leftovers of the magic, taste ans smells of the first. Justin D’Onofrio AKA Grandpa was a lion has just released ‘2 days in June’, a 2 gorgeous acoustic tracks EP, available now for free download. Needless to say we just love it…listen to ‘Texas Forever’, the first track off this EP.

June Dissolve: The Garment District Lofiles Mix

June 25th, 2012

One of my favorite recent records was ‘Melody Elder’, a stunning recording venture by the extremely talented multi instrumentalist Jennifer Baron (a founding member of Brooklyn’s The Ladybug TransistorMerge Records), who has been recording under the moniker The Garment District. There is something striking about this project; maybe it has to do with Jennifer’s naivete, or unpretentious approach. Its quality lies within its authenticity, and while listening to track after track, you sense this childish truth throughout. I was very pleased she had gladly acceped my challenge to curate a mixtape for us …. And the next thing I know that this is one of the freshest dopest haziest psychedelic hippie mixes of songs I have heard in awhile, and cant wait for you to hear that too…besides, listen to her wonderful Garment District stuff as well and purchase it HERE.

My dark slimy soul

June 23rd, 2012

Crystal Shipsss is the solo project from Danish songwriter currently residing in Berlin Jacob Faurholt, who has released four solo albums already, plus an EP under the moniker Why Write?, which was a collaboration with legendary producer Kramer (Daniel Johnston, Low, Galaxie 500). Faurholt has played a long line of concerts, among them as support for Efterklang, Grizzly Bear, The Black Heart Procession, and CocoRosie. Now with the release of Yay (Raw Onion Records / Rillbar on June 11th (US release July 10th on Three Ring Records), an album we have been raving about for quite some time now, and this track that touches ‘my dark and slimy soul’..Buy the mother please if you are a serious guy like me, or download it for free…

Blake Mills

June 23rd, 2012

Its all about feel and soul. Maybe demands lots of work as well, but hard work is not what brings out those beautiful riffs and creative ideas. Something I call street wisdom, and when you listen to him its sounds so Blake Millsy, his signature so original, god… If you are a great guitar player, or just happen to know a thing or two about playing, you know you could take a 5$ Hallmark guitar through 2$ pig nose amp, and sound like Clapton with a Twin. Another thing that I have noticed, maybe because the way the guitar is built, that most guitar players are really constrained or trapped within its almost mathematical limitations. What I mean, is that its very hard to break out from the obvious, the same old fingerings you are so good at and have been abusing for years on end. Obviously, that is not the case with Blake Mills. Watch this astonishing little documentary about him, and if you are a guitar player, then you might consider picking out a different instrument..

On the water

June 18th, 2012

This song made me go over everything that happened today once again. This is the place you run from so many times, where youb are completely exposed, so fragile and naked, try to abuse all those sedatives, to ease the pain, the enormous fear..and while I was feeling the failure sneaking in, fighting it invading in full powers, she came in and saved me once more. The tremendous love, compassion, caring and understanding, and so much wisdom, taking you by the hand, reassuring, and it all went away. Thank god. Future Islands music is hopelessly romantic, but hey, that’s what protected me today..

‘On the Water’, Future Islands is available now from Thrill Jockey Records

Barbara Kinzle and Birch Cooper, the Portland, Oregon duo, The Slaves, only have a handful of releases under their belt so far, but they have learnt how to fit real well within each other’s movements, piling on in all the right places and knowing when to pull back. Their formula is simple: guitar, synth, voice. The Slaves debut “River” off forthcoming Spirits of the Sun LP out on Digitalis this July.
