Heavenly Monsters

October 14th, 2012

Was reminded of the gorgeous track “Candles” by Jon Hopkins released on the 2010 Soundtrack “Monsters”. I remember how much I loved this one..

Calico hero

October 14th, 2012

Another Calico Corp. hero right here. Eric Copeland is theee man. His instrumental mayhem/ hip hop, colorful to the max samplemania, is something we could really appreciate here consider where we are coming from, exploring the origin of sampling and Hip Hop birth days. This is one of the most out there psych instrumental singles we have heard in awhile, and make us so happy to be doing what we do that enables us to hear such heavenly sounds.

Guilty or not guilty?

October 14th, 2012

It is not the first time I mention Guilty Ghosts (Tristan O’Donell solo project) here, and I believe I have treated him with a bonus graphics the last time around. I truly love those instrumental guitar pieces. Usually, I tend to stay away from guitar players music, cause most of the time, its fuckin boring, as they tend to play according to the obvious voicings, and quite often, don’t succeed in sounding too original. GG though, is a quite different project. It is more the Mogwaii way, those imaginative guitar parts and the sounds, it is not too clean or distorted, it is just right, no bullshit sounding tracks and riffs. Everything is there for a reason. Nobody is trying here to sound too sophisticated. It is just what Tristan O’Donell does best, and like Zappa had said once..”Shut up and play your guitar”, or should we say, Shut up and listen?

October 14th, 2012

2-3 years ago I was introduced to Slim Twig’s music by a small PR agency. I loved what I have heard. A combination of ragged beats, Hip-Hop, Rock & Roll, Garage music, distorted guitars, noisy samples, cool freaky twisted vocals, and to sum it up, kick a.. bedroom music just the way we love it. Few weeks ago I have received his new recording venture, A hound at the Hem. Again, freaky and twisted and a tad creepy as a friend was telling me while we were riding her car and listening to the first track off this project titled “Heavy Splendour”. I really dig this, and find it quite brave and truly inspiring and motivating.

Mean Lady

October 9th, 2012

Mean Lady is three young adults creating a new sound out of elements from every genre, and tying it up with a ribbon called POP. Together, Sam, Katie, and Octie make a tidal wave of sound that is a unique and novel sensation, yet feels like home in the timelessness of their beautiful songs. Best of all, this music is truly enjoyable for all ages and all occasions, from grandkids to grandparents, from meditating in the morning to dancing the night away.

October 9th, 2012

Heard this rich sounding awesome track on Yvynyl, and decided to bring you the exact story, as Mark writes..”as In his email to me, Elliot Kozel absolutely nailed the description of his music:

I’m a dude living in Minneapolis who has been experiencing sexual frustration for many years. Out of desperation and insane loneliness, I decided I needed to express this through my synth-r&b sex pop, so I ripped off a bunch of ideas from Prince, Parliament and Outkast and made my own thing. It’s called Tickle Torture. Sounds kinda like Justin Timberlake got wasted on vodka Redbulls and recorded all night with a bunch of broken synthesizers”.

We love this track..

Sweet and lo

October 6th, 2012

Love this song, man. It reminds me of everything I have done and worked on during my NYC days… Oh man, and those lush sweet ultra sexy R&B ballads. Them shits do it to me big time. Maybe this music doesn’t have a lot to do with what we do here, but its so perfect for the hour and this weekend, or this semi dreamy druggy mood I am in. It feels like I am watching my own autobiographic feature. Like I observe from above, and find I am truly surprised when I watch some of the moves this ‘myself individual’ makes down there. It doesn’t look like the tough arrogant full of attitude old me, I can assure you that much. This creature is so soft, sensitive, full of emotion, open, exposed. Oh my god, what is this?? Tears??? I am startled..He is kinda spineless, plus he is all over this woman, like nothing else exists down there……………..Wait a minute…Come to think about it.. Maybe I am just a tad envious. They sit so close down there, staring at one another, and that smile..and the warmth….this is kinda sweet, like this song you listen to in the background…or maybe this is the background??
