Lofiles is a music and mp3 blog contains a collection of songs I love. MP3s are for sampling purposes only. If you like the music as much as I do, please go out and buy the records! The website's focus is mainly on indie music covering a wide array of genres: Alternative, alt folk, alt country, singer-songwriter, indie hip hop, funk & soul, experimental music and more.
I try to steer clear of any music on major record labels preferring to support independent labels and artists only.If you have a complaint about the ownership of a track, please contact me directly and I will be happy to take it down ASAP.

Frankie Rose

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Frankie Rose has a reputation around Brooklyn. By reputation, we mean her minimal, Maureen Tucker-like beats and iconic presence in such buzz-stirring bands as Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls, and Vivian Girls. Those groups spearheaded a scene that mixed the sounds of lo-fi garage, big reverb-drenched Phil Spector-produced 60s girl groups, the noise aesthetic of the Jesus And Mary Chain with a touch of Velvet Underground and a strong DIY ethic to create a sound that’s influenced a new generation of bands around the world.

At least that’s what she’s been known for up until now. As you’re about to hear on her new group’s self-titled Slumberland Records debut, Frankie Rose and the Outs have their heads in the clouds a bit more than Rose’s previous projects. Listening to the ghostly golden-oldie grooves of songs like “Girlfriend Island,” “Candy” and the pedal-pounding “That’s What People Told Me,” it’s as if the Cocteau Twins and Shangri-Las tracked a split LP with the help of a time machine and a freshly-acquitted Phil Spector. Prince Rama signs to Paw Tracks, readies debut LP for Sept. release

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Raised on a Hare Krishna commune in Florida, educated at art school in Boston, and now making noise and living in Brooklyn, Prince Rama are the latest addition to the Paw Tracks roster. Their new album Shadow Temple is an epic shrine of swirling synths, pulsing guitars, and thunder drums. An ethereal chorus of voices and anthemic melodies create a reverb-washed mine of sonic artifacts drawing from southeast Asian rituals, krautrock legacies, chopped and screwed homages, hallucinatory operas, and dance hall psychedelia. Recorded in Kurt Vonnegut’s grandson’s cabin and a 135-year-old haunted church with the help of Animal Collective members Avey Tare and Deakin, Shadow Temple offers itself as a sincere porthole into a mysterious realm that defies material understanding.

CALLmeKAT ANNOUNCES UPCOMING JUNE TOUR DATES

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Having recently returned to the states after a European tour, Copenhagen-via-NYC musician CALLmeKAT will be performing several dates in June, including a set of dates at NXNE in Toronto.  Known for her distinctly Scandinavian sound: melancholic, dreamy pop, CALLmeKAT is the moniker of Danish singer, keyboardista and composer Katrine Ottosen. Throughout Europe and Scandinavia, CALLmeKAT has toured as solo headliner as well as opening for notable artists such as Sebastien Tellier, Au Revoir Simone, Okkervil River, The Dø and Nouvelle Vague, amongst others.
In 2009, CALLmeKAT played numerous critically-acclaimed shows, received an Underground Music Award for “Best Alternative Act,” and was granted one of the Danish Art Council’s prestigious grants for young, talented artists with international ambition and potential. She then made an appearance at the 2010 SXSW Festival, where she was asked to perform a “Tiny Desk SXSW Concert” on NPR’s All Things Considered. This was followed by a pick on both Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton’s (NPR) “Who We Liked-list” from this year’s SxSW. During the festival, she was also filmed by Yours Tru.ly for an intimate parking lot performance.
Living in New York since early 2010, she recently collaborated with Joe Magistro (Prophet Omega) on finishing her international debut When Owls Are Out, which consists of reworked and remixed material from her Scandinavian 2008 release Fall Down, and also brand new recordings.

Check out CALLmeKAT’s video for the single “My Sea,” directed by D.R. Kelley and filmed on location in Los Angeles.

Glass Ghost Premiere “The Same” Video

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Glass Ghost represents the birth of a new musical force distilled from myriad influences, from J. Dilla to Deerhoof. The result is something completely refreshing, and fittingly, a little scary. It’s the pairing of Eliot Krimsky’s fragile and haunting falsetto with the group’s bottom-heavy, hip-hop influenced rhythm section that yields the crystalline world propelled by Mike Johnson’s ass-shakin’ beats found on their debut Idol Omen.

The unique world they’ve crafted serves as the perfect vehicle for the album’s paranoid narrative, loosely following the metamorphosis of a modern businessman into some mysterious new form.

The arc of Idol Omen’s tale is revealed in fragments as the detached protagonist wanders, observes, and occasionally interacts, with his surreal, often threatening, environment. While fear, anxiety and delusion effervesce from tracks like “Mechanical Life” and “The Same” the album ebbs and flows from frenzied to fatigued. Alternately, the beautiful and unforgettable “Like a Diamond” invokes reflections of resolute melancholy, while “Divisions” holds listeners captive in the bizarre images of a fever dream. The final track “Ending” provides a sense of release, as an unexplained confluence of events triggers the central character’s eventual mutation and transcendence.

Wavves announces album details for King of the Beach

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Nathan Williams and his sensational band Wavves is coming out with ‘King of the Beach’, a new album. King of the Beach is an adventurous and ambitious record. It cuts deeper into the bleeding throat catharsis and ’60s sunshine soul that Wavves is known for. It also unexpectedly flips out with elements of primitive electronics and psychedelic studio experimentation.

Unlike Wavves’ previously released material, recorded in haphazard bursts on Williams’ laptop, King of the Beach was toiled over for three months at Sweet Tea Recording, a world-renown studio in Oxford, Mississippi. Sweet Tea is also the home of Dennis Herring, producer of the last two Modest Mouse albums, and the man who dismantled and re-assembled the sound on this record. Listen to   Mickey Mouse

ACTIVE CHILD’S DEBUT EP CURTIS LANE OUT TODAY VIA FILTER US RECORDINGS

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Los Angeles-based electronic-pop artist Active Child releases his debut EP titled Curtis Lane on FILTER US Recordings today. The EP can be purchased digitally through the iTunes music store HERE or on 10″ white vinyl, which is available through his official Web site.

Active Child is the new project from choirboy-turned-indie pop musician Pat Grossi. Active Child has already garnered complimentary critical praise from the likes of notable outlets such as NME, The Guardian, LA Weekly, Pitchfork, Stereogum and many others.

Little Tybee is a small but enchanting Barrier island off of the coast of Savannah, GA, whose tidal beaches are said to delicately blanket a scuttled atomic bomb that has been missing for over 60 years.  Little Tybee is also a band from Atlanta, GA that was formed in the winter of 2009 By Brock Scott, Josh Martin and Ryan Gregory.

With a brand new music video created from the most brilliant artistic minds at Savannah College of Art & Design as well as the non-chalant yo-yo talent of Mark Montgomery, Little Tybee is releasing this gem to the world in support of their upcoming June tour and leading into their Fall album release.

Starting off in their home town of Savannah on June 4th, Little Tybee will make their way North, hitting up Athens, Atlanta, Asheville, Brooklyn and Philadelphia before they return home on June 15th.

Under Byen Releases New Video and mp3 Download for “Kapitel 1″

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

Denmark’s heavily atmospheric and strikingly beautiful septet Under Byen recently released their video for “Kapitel 1” (available on Vimeo), along with the mp3 download for the song (available for posting).
Directed once again by visual artist Sidse Carstens, who was behind their video for “Alt Er Tabt” (All is lost), the clip focuses on a few dramatically coiffed characters, each enacting individualized, powerful gestures, collectively focusing on their hair. As the director states, “I’ve decided to do this as a piece of art, not a music video in the common sense of the word. I often work with different characters in my movies.”

“Kapitel 1″ (Chapter 1) is taken from Under Byen’s recently released fourth album, Alt Er Tabt, available now on Paper Bag Records.
