Misspelled Santa Satan/ An Exclusive Lofiles/ Emit Bloch Merry Christmas song

December 22nd, 2012

American country beatnik and our absolute favorite trooper Emit Bloch makes lofi bluegrass music, relying on a rare combination of lyricist/narrative/ songwriter abilities, in addition to his guitar playing and picking. Our lofi troubadour recorded the songs of his debut album Dictaphones Vol. 1 at home from his kitchen table for the princely sum of just £6, with all tracks recorded directly to Dictaphone. Now, he has sent us an exclusive Christmas song clip, tilted “Misspelled Santa Satan, shot by his girlfriend/ companion photographer Kate Garner….absolutely gorgeous my friends. I just wanted to add a better reflecting and updated bio of Emit, suitable for his colorful charcter; ..”Emit Bloch is a songwriting, tennis-playing expatriot with Mormon and Jewish roots who finds the legalization of cannabis an interesting prospect. He divides his time between London and San Francisco and occasionally performs. His 2010 release Dictaphones Vol. 1 (One Little Indian) received widespread critical acclaim. He is releasing an as-of-yet untitled collection of new songs in 2013 as well as an EP with his four piece band, Done Four, which Bloch describes as his “rock outlet.”…

Merry Christmas to ya all, from Emit and us at Lofiles and here is A LINK for a free download

Listen to our new platform; SOB radio

May 12th, 2012

SOB stands for ‘Sound Of A Bitch’and is a new extension of The Lofiles org platform. We have decided, after 4 years of fruitful blogging, to expose the artists we believe in to a wider crowd, and to try to run this web station in a unlimited fashion as possible. We are really open to suggestions, recommendations, if there is an interesting artist you might think of that fits the Lofiles bill, Lofi, Experimental, Musical, Minimalistic, Uncompromising, etc, let us know. In the meantime, visit us HERE

One Body

January 7th, 2012

Sons of an Illustrious Father second full-length album, ‘One Body’, was released on November 9th, 2011, and is available now on their Bandcamp. SOAIF is a five-piece band from the Hudson Valley. There are combining traditional folk, blues, country, and early gospel forms with punkish raw drive and performance, distinctly American. Love the album’s opener.

December 22nd, 2011

This collection of songs has been curated out of the 300 artists and tracks we have covered throughout the year. This has been more or less my iPod’s most abused playlist, and the magical number that we have come up with, are those songs that have accompanied us for the longest time. Those of you that will dig deeper, will realize that our heart belongs to lofi minimalistic bedroom music and we are always on the search for musicians that succeed in making inspiring music within the limitations of their homes or bedroom and despite of the fact they had no budget . SONG ORDER IS PRETTY MUCH MEANINGLESS, allthough we have placed the artists you are most likely to know at the top spots.

We wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy Chanukah, a Joyous Kwanzaa, and a Happy New Year…and we hope next year will be as inspiring and rewarding as this one.

December 3rd, 2010

Twenty-four months, 1,100 posts, 500 artists, and we are so happy to still be here, exploding with energy (yeah, believe it or not, we’ve still got some strength left in us). Some of our favorite artists have sent us lovely birthday presents, from songs they wrote especially for the occasion, original clips, fun photos, and birthday wishes. We have so many great gifts to share with you.

We really want to thank our devoted followers and supporters, all these great artists we believe in and whose music we love so much. So Happy Birthday Lofiles….and may there be many more!

Frazey Ford

May 26th, 2010

‘Chinatown’, The Be good Tanyas 2003 album, changed something in me and my approach to music. This dark, minimalistic, amazing alt country album by the Canadian trio really got me. I can’t really explain why I was so moved, but it drew me closer again to the biggest passion in my life, and I believe their music is what started the Lofiles project going. Anyhow, the Tanyas, continue to make great music, and this gorgeous one is from Frazey Ford, their lead singer. Her debut, Obadiah, is due on Jul 20th on Nettwerk, and this is Firecracker, with special thanks to AA again.

By the way I know I have been slow lately, but I got a good excuse; I am working on some original music again, so hopefully I`ll have something to play you guys soon….

Dictaphones vol 1

March 13th, 2010

About Emit Bloch:…” Recorded for £6 on a Sony cassette dictaphone as a demo for his soon-to-be music publishers (MuteSong), Emit Bloch’s’ Dictaphones Vol. 1’ is truly a credit-crunch album. Fueled by Bloch’s rapid-fire lyricism, unique guitar styling and cosmic/comic imagery, the 16 songs collected here are a tour through a wild west of eloquent grifters, talking rivers, bleeding clouds, interplanetary frontiersmen and neighborly psychopaths. Born on a cattle ranch in Utah and transplanted by his professor father to Berkeley, CA – ground zero for all things beatnik – Bloch has a rich history to draw on when creating his distinct American music”…

That`s what he is saying: “I’d demoed these new songs at my kitchen table in London. They got me a publishing deal and some money to record with. As usual, the raw demos sounded better than the studio recordings, but quite unusual everyone agreed to put them out instead,” says Bloch. Helpful was the fact that when an early edition of the dictaphone recordings was issued to iTunes through Blochs imprint, iDot (via One Little Indian), the recordings were chosen by iTunes editors as a front page pick.

I love his songs, clever lyrics, his unique finger picking, his phrasing and this cheapo Sony Dictaphone sound. Buy the album – out on One little Indian April 5th. I just got a promo copy of ‘Dictaphones vol 1’. Listen to the wonderful Trees
