Aches is a twenty-four-year-old British producer and visual artist from Sheffield currently based in Bratislava, Slovakia. His compositions demonstrate a love for collapsing abstract beats, plucked atmospheric guitars and growling bass, as well as traces of field recording. Oneohtrix Point Never, Aphex Twin, Pantha du Prince, Cocteau Twins and Emeralds, with whom he recently shared a stage, are but a few influences you can find carefully woven into the recently released debut EP ‘Fine Tongue‘ and on the forthcoming full length LP. The LP, due to be released in February via Exitab, advances deep dreamy textures and complex sound collages with heavy breathing percussion.

Bird People

I have received this message on my Facebook page the other day:” Hello, my name is Uli Rois, I’m running a small label dedicated to psych/experimental/drone in Vienna, Austria and play with my own project Bird People. i like the work you are doing with Lofiles and wanted to let you have our recent tape”….”maybe you would like to give it a listen”.The photo above is from the first of the “field recording sessions”. In his own words:” Since a lot of the material I’m writing for the next Bird People album seems to be centered around the notion of travel, it seemed appropriate to do some recording “on the road”. With the help of a firewire-bus-powered audio interface the back of my Ford station wagon can be turned into a pretty decent mobile recording studio”. Hey, did I mention we love it???

Nigel Simpson has been around for quite sometime now, and has played piano with Phil Manzanera, Brian Eno, Kevin Ayers and Ed Laurie to name but a few. I have been listening to his self releases as Sunslide on Bandcamp, mainly to his Fieldpiano pieces off ‘Combine’. My Middle eastern Sunday (which is not part of the weekend and is the first day of our working week here in Israel), has started off real real bad, or actually, had hardly started, but ended up much better with the help of Mr. Simpson and his Sunslide project.
