Heard this rich sounding awesome track on Yvynyl, and decided to bring you the exact story, as Mark writes..”as In his email to me, Elliot Kozel absolutely nailed the description of his music:
I’m a dude living in Minneapolis who has been experiencing sexual frustration for many years. Out of desperation and insane loneliness, I decided I needed to express this through my synth-r&b sex pop, so I ripped off a bunch of ideas from Prince, Parliament and Outkast and made my own thing. It’s called Tickle Torture. Sounds kinda like Justin Timberlake got wasted on vodka Redbulls and recorded all night with a bunch of broken synthesizers”.
SOB stands for ‘Sound Of A Bitch’and is a new extension of The Lofiles org platform. We have decided, after 4 years of fruitful blogging, to expose the artists we believe in to a wider crowd, and to try to run this web station in a unlimited fashion as possible. We are really open to suggestions, recommendations, if there is an interesting artist you might think of that fits the Lofiles bill, Lofi, Experimental, Musical, Minimalistic, Uncompromising, etc, let us know. In the meantime, visit us HERE
Mister Lies is the project of Chicago‘s Nick Zanca. Mister Lies will release its debut LP this Fall on Lefse Records and I am going nuts over this track I have received from FF PR..shit smoking…don’t try it at home..Blast it half as hard as I did.
Jewellers made my day. Their recent recording venture, ‘Lakeswimming’, was released yesterday, followed me today, on this crazy errand day. From the Jewellers mouth: We (Gareth Leaman and Gareth Young) come from the sunny (rhymes with funny) town of Newport, South Wales (UK) .we make music with warped samples, synths, noises and cut up beats and the odd guitar. And few words about this gorgeous hypnotizing creation:…”"We started forming this album pretty much a year ago, just after we released ‘Sleep Education’. We aimed to move away from ambient soundscapes and sampled loops towards a more beat-driven, glitchy and warped sound. We got really excited when songs like Sing Trees were forming so wanted to make more of these upbeat and densely layered tracks”….I find this record truly inspiring, and more important, soothing. Their meditative journey is like a homeopathic medication for my borderline OCD behavior. I really abused ‘Thirty six’, the ultrafunky soulfull ‘Easier Together’, the beautiful sounding Statues, let me tell you something; a lot of work went into this mature album, and it is wel worth your attention and change, I mean, you could buy it only for 4 quid HERE. By the way, Artwork by Dean Howe
Certain artists and tracks I have reviewed in the past few months have touched me in a different way and stay with me for a long while ( It doesn’t mean others dont). I have decided to make this fall compilation for those of you who slept on those tracks or never heard them. This mix will be available for streaming only here (Lofiles) and on Soundcloud.
We are aware Record store dayis celebrated on the 16th of April , but we believe you should buy them records all year long plus that`s our small contribution, we have designed a poster for the ETSY artist community record store day poster so here you are…AND BUY THEM RECORDS AT ONE OF THOSE OLD SCHOOL RECORD STORE located near you THAT HAS BEEN THERE FOR AGES..Like Kimber`s Stinkweeds for example..
We love Deepak Mantena. Summer friends by Junk Culture is such a great song. Production, arrangement, riffs, wonderful vocals and background vocals, it has inspired us to do some photoshop improvisations, as seen above.
Went to see DJ Shadow live the other night to bring you sights and sounds, but my Video camera`s memory card was brutally confiscated by his manager, so I got few stills off this great show, opening band, this all star Kutiman orchestra, all those Jewish local Afroheads playing Ala G Clinton, and DJ Shadow with a killlller set, unfortunately, all those great moments are still in His manager`s pocket (200$ card).
Now, I thought we are both on the same side of things (being that music fulfills such an large part of our lives), the only difference is that the guy is making a living off his music, and I don’t even make that. I am a non profit org, established to promote musicians that make great music, and don’t sell out, and need my promotion, or, so I thought. His music is NOT COMMERCIAL, and I never thought bringing his innovative music to few more homes will create such a fuss. But f… it, although I stood there for 4 hrs with a Spinal disc herniation. The big question is services who better. Do artists enjoy music blogs promotion and could use it for further exposure, or is it that music blogs take advantage of indie fame. And there is another scenario: The slight chance one wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the help and work of others. I believe everyone wants to make a living, but one could find better paying jobs than music business related jobs. I have seen this well known rock photographer, waiting for the fr…n bus after this concert. There are many musicians I know, that are doing what the do only for the music`s sake, and don’t COMPROMISE, a big word, maybe a cliché, but it is the truth. Cant blame Flying Lotus, or DJ Premier for selling out, no matter what. Every time I bump into a hurdle of that sort, I take it as a personal insult, as if someone stained my endless efforts, you know, a full time job with no pay.
So as you can see, I am traumatized, and it really took all my positive energy away, and it`s a shame. Make no mistake though, and I am sure of that, one of us slept well the other night.
This is ‘The very best of Lofiles’ January – June 2010, our very own kinda World Cup, and it is important to point out that all of the artists listed below are finalists, we love and respect them all. Enjoy their music and support the artists by buying their albums.
