Its so easy? Is it?

July 28th, 2012

This is the first single released from the forthcoming debut record by “M.H. & His Orchestra”, a bizarre troop of musicians who recently recorded at Champe Ford Studio. Here’s a little bit from “M.H.”:..”It’s a song about trying to reason with a depressed person, it’s hard to tell someone that it’s a lot easier than it seems to get out of it. You have two options, kick them in the ass or persuade them to dance”….

Passenger

July 23rd, 2012

Its not the first time we discuss Emily Wells here, but this time you are in for a big surprise. She has reached the Premiere league now with this extraordinary song of hers, ‘Passanger‘, and that could be just what she needed as a NYC newcomer. Watch out For Emily and Dark Dark Dark ( the Minneapolis folk band ) down at the Knitting Factory on October 12th.

Against A Simple Wooden Cross

July 22nd, 2012

I can really relate to Fraser McGowan’s story right now, and I know some of you will get my drift.

The absolutely wonderful ‘Against A Simple Wooden Cross’ was born after Scottish based artist Fraser McGowan (AKA Caught In The Wake Forever) had suffered a complete mental breakdown last year, following a life-long battle with chronic anxiety. He had to give up his job and eventually his girlfriend and son moved out, leaving him to face his struggles alone.

Naturally, he felt destroyed but the one thing he had was extra time on his hands, which he had not been used to before. Previously, his work with music had been a very slow process but suddenly, the one thing he had left was a seemingly infinite amount of time in which to work carefully and unhurried. For six months, Fraser immersed himself in this album and poured everything that he had left into it. At the start of the project he had absolutely no confidence left in himself and as the music began to take shape, he began to tread the road to recovery.

Against A Simple Wooden Cross is an honest account from an artist who was literally starting life again, completely on his own terms for the first time.

This great album is out now on Hibernate. All profits from the album will go to Crisis Counselling established in 1996 to significantly reduce the barriers and exclusion in mental health care. PURCHASE THE ALBUM HERE

Releases

July 15th, 2012

Every weekend, my mail boxes explode with PR notes, new releases updates and notifications, music news, and loads of tracks I receive for reviewing purposes. I have decided to share 2 of my weekend favorites with you . The first track was sent to me by Andrew Hamlet, sharing his latest Pressed And Mush records release, ‘Hyper Thistle’, a breakbeat chopped vocal track that works out perfectly as a soundtrack to my agitated spirit. The second track is a nice surprise from a longtime acquaintance, Malka Spigel, (Minimal Compact), who is about to release ‘Every Day Is Like The First Day’ (September 4 On Pink Flag).

Every Day Is Like The First Day features Malka Spigel, Colin Newman (husband, Wire), and number of collaborators including Andy Ramsay (Stereolab; Press Play), Johnny Marr (The Smiths; Modest Mouse; The Cribs) and Matthew Simms (It Hugs Back; Wire) among many others.

June 23rd, 2012

Crystal Shipsss is the solo project from Danish songwriter currently residing in Berlin Jacob Faurholt, who has released four solo albums already, plus an EP under the moniker Why Write?, which was a collaboration with legendary producer Kramer (Daniel Johnston, Low, Galaxie 500). Faurholt has played a long line of concerts, among them as support for Efterklang, Grizzly Bear, The Black Heart Procession, and CocoRosie. Now with the release of Yay (Raw Onion Records / Rillbar on June 11th (US release July 10th on Three Ring Records), an album we have been raving about for quite some time now, and this track that touches ‘my dark and slimy soul’..Buy the mother please if you are a serious guy like me, or download it for free…

Remember to remember me

June 16th, 2012

Personally, the combination of dreamy+repetition+bedroom music is theeee winning formula. Thing is, Chad Hogan AKA Chad Hagans can write beautiful haunting tunes, regardless. A Nick Drake influenced upstate kid, with lots of talent anf songwriting maturity, with a first EP titled ‘Morning Stories‘ released late last year, and a full length debut, ‘Remember to remember me’ on Bluebery Hill records. Oops, almost forgot, did I mention this record was produced by theeee man, Erik David?..I guess I didn’t, so here you are.

Fallin

June 11th, 2012

Its our relentless main man, Erik David, who has been working hard on his own musical career as an artist/ performer in addition to bringing us great artists with his Housewarming label. I got a mail this morning and he writes;.” hey man, it’s erik david hidde… here is my new song (as Beater Ban ) “fallin luv”, it’s influenced by waking up in the middle of the night and walking from the couch to my bed, and the things I think about half-asleep”…Awesome my friends..
