Fear of Men

May 3rd, 2012

Just received a mail from FOM. Allthough might be little poppy for us, I really like it. Fear of Men return with the 7” ‘Green Sea’, released on London’s Sexbeat (Fresh & Only’s, No Joy, White Fence) on the 18th of June and limited to 300 copies. The single was recorded in a basement studio in Wandsworth in early 2012 and features a musical saw, backwards guitar solo and layers of backing vocals processed through a near dilapidated Echo Chamber. The band are touring the UK with Best Coast in June.

Faded?

May 2nd, 2012

Maybe the photos have faded, but George’s music is still ringing in my ears. Faded Photographs is the most accomplished and accessible Absent Without Leave release to date, featuring guest appearances from some really great artists, including Port-Royal, Stafraenn Hakon, Epic 45, Millimetrik and members of Hood, The Declining Winter, Plumerai, Eksi Ekso, Tupolev, Slon and others too. Absent Without Leave is the solo project of George Mastrokostas, based in Athens, Greece.

Recording everything himself or sometimes with assistance from some good friends, he produces an ambient sound led by open clean guitar arpeggios accompanied by sweet landscapes and textures, reminds me of an old ambient Eno record.

Each cd is packaged in an elegant 4-panel digipak of recycled cardboard with the front cover image printed on photo paper! It’s a limited edition of 500 handmade collectible copies and each copy is unique with a different front cover image. You’d better hurry up cause there are only 27 copies left. Order it HERE

The cleansing hour

May 2nd, 2012

Just heard ‘The cleansing hour’ by SoftSpot and loved it. Actually, the video had just come out, but check out the song first, not to be destructed by the visuals, cause the song is too good for any interference. The track is not new, but if it’s the first time you hear this, you got lucky, I guess…

AU’s OJ

April 25th, 2012

Takafumi Tsuchiya, also known as Takcom is a Tokyo based independent motion director, designer and animater. He has been working for both commercial and artistic projects constantly challenging existent boundaries, through his collaborations with several cutting-edge musicians at cultural events and nightclub live performances. By using the various technique such as mixing pre-recorded sources and handmade (or keyframed) animations with generated materials, He is on constant quest for universal visual language, based on new ethics. Check out his latest, A clip for AU’s OJ. I love this song.

Haunted Dancehall

April 18th, 2012

In May 2011, Ela Orleans 16 track tape collection of lo-fi 4 track recordings called NEO PI-R was released on Clan Destine Records. The cassette sold out and had been re-released by Clan Destine Records on vinyl 12″ LP in December 2011. NEO PI-R  is sparse, and as Dafydd McKaharay (Mishka) describes the record ..”This is post-punk from the Gaslamp Era. Andrew Weatheral once titled a Sabres of Paradise album Haunted Dancehall, and that term is a perfect description of this tape. order it HERE
