Aches

October 15th, 2012

Aches is a twenty-four-year-old British producer and visual artist from Sheffield currently based in Bratislava, Slovakia. His compositions demonstrate a love for collapsing abstract beats, plucked atmospheric guitars and growling bass, as well as traces of field recording. Oneohtrix Point Never, Aphex Twin, Pantha du Prince, Cocteau Twins and Emeralds, with whom he recently shared a stage, are but a few influences you can find carefully woven into the recently released debut EP ‘Fine Tongue‘ and on the forthcoming full length LP. The LP, due to be released in February via Exitab, advances deep dreamy textures and complex sound collages with heavy breathing percussion.

Heavenly Monsters

October 14th, 2012

Was reminded of the gorgeous track “Candles” by Jon Hopkins released on the 2010 Soundtrack “Monsters”. I remember how much I loved this one..

Calico hero

October 14th, 2012

Another Calico Corp. hero right here. Eric Copeland is theee man. His instrumental mayhem/ hip hop, colorful to the max samplemania, is something we could really appreciate here consider where we are coming from, exploring the origin of sampling and Hip Hop birth days. This is one of the most out there psych instrumental singles we have heard in awhile, and make us so happy to be doing what we do that enables us to hear such heavenly sounds.

Guilty or not guilty?

October 14th, 2012

It is not the first time I mention Guilty Ghosts (Tristan O’Donell solo project) here, and I believe I have treated him with a bonus graphics the last time around. I truly love those instrumental guitar pieces. Usually, I tend to stay away from guitar players music, cause most of the time, its fuckin boring, as they tend to play according to the obvious voicings, and quite often, don’t succeed in sounding too original. GG though, is a quite different project. It is more the Mogwaii way, those imaginative guitar parts and the sounds, it is not too clean or distorted, it is just right, no bullshit sounding tracks and riffs. Everything is there for a reason. Nobody is trying here to sound too sophisticated. It is just what Tristan O’Donell does best, and like Zappa had said once..”Shut up and play your guitar”, or should we say, Shut up and listen?

Fair play

August 31st, 2012

I got a mail from a musician named Nicholas Fair the other day. It says;..” Perhaps you’ll like my music and want to listen to it on several different occasions. If you happen to do something of the sort please let me know. Write about it and tell your friends”….So, we like it, just the way it is, a mellow electric guitar, with the tape hiss and the whole nine..his music soothes me, just like the night does.

All tangles up or back in full effect

August 17th, 2012

As you have seen, we were vacationing for awhile, recharging our batteries after straight full four years of activity, and to the worried followers, take a deep breathe, relax, cause we are back in full effect, boys and gals. There is nothing better than starting out our comeback with the fresh sounding ‘All tangled up’, the new Woodsman single.

All Tangled Up

Why steal? Actually, Why not?

July 9th, 2012

Jib Kidder Steals guitars. actually, its a harsh word, so lets say he borrows. Besides, its not guitars, just guitar parts. He samples all those country and spaghetti westerns, rootsy American guitar parts, that actually could fit perfectly on a Tarantino movie, and turns this frantic mixture into funk heaven. As he states on his bandcamp page, he has been creating new junk out of existing junk for the past 15 years. He got the Midas touch for funk, manipulating those breakbeats and turning them into his own. Using all those cheesy bits and pieces as an instrument, and mastering this art in such a creative manner, turning his music to an upgraded Wiseguys version. While playing his ‘Steal guitar’ record (released few months ago), I had a feeling this record reflects my life right now. There is something so meaningful for me about this organized clolorful mayhem, and it truly fits the frenzied mood I am in right now, plus, I find it ultra inspiring. Incredible, my friends.
