From the capital of the south… to Folkale

Who said the Israeli south can`t rock?….

The first artist I saw cause I got there real late was Nadav Azulay, an Albino from the southern part of Israel, the capital of the desert, Beer Sheva, with it`s live and kicking indie scene. I didn’t know a thing about this guy, just saw him rockin on stage accompanied only by a drummer a la White Stripes. Sounded real good and tight, great sounding guitars and couple of songs. Later on I saw the undeniable king of the southern indie scene, the tormented David Peretz, the busy than ever writer, philosopher, musician, songwriter, producer, label owner, coming from Beer Sheva as well, releasing folky alternative bluesy material for years and years. He was sitting on a darkened stage with a pedal board and an acoustic, crying out ballads accompanied by delays and texture loops and squeaks. I liked the fact he didn’t try to please the crowd and did what he wanted to do. I have known this guy for years and played some acoustic guitars on his first recordings, on an old Yamaha he owns that I love and try to convince him to sell to me and he woudnt. His playing improved tremendously over the years. I have heard couple of great bluesy ballads from him last night. I f you speak the native language you could check out his blog too.
