“Loving takes this course” is the title of a new tribute album to the New York folk singer/songwriter Kath Bloom that had disappeared from the New York scene 20 years ago, gone to raise her sons in New England. The track that stands out on this tribute album (covers by Mark Kozelek, Marianne Dissard, the Dodos and Devendra Banhart) is by my favorite Drag city artist, Bill Callahan. Callahan turns “The breeze/My baby cries” medley to a wonderful lofi track, w simple guitar chord part, touches of Rhodes piano, minimalistic percussion fills and his unique reading like delivery of the lyrics. Essential listening, folkies.
