Malcolm Lacy’s music does it to me big time. I mean, the kid is only fuckin 19 years old, yet I find this unbelievable maturity in his craftsmanship, songwriting. His wisdom lies in his extraordinary gift for simplifying, a rare commodity, when you consider his young age.

The main motivation behind starting Lofiles 4 years ago was an album titled ‘Chinatown’, released in 2003, by 3 young Canadian ladies, The be good Tanyas. What drew me to their music was the fact it was bare, naked, completely undressed, supporting no maneuvers. Even though none is a virtuoso, it’s arrangement and performance was so perfect yet sparse, and like Charlie Watts had once said about The Stones songs, ..’sometimes during a song, you got a feeling its going to stop, fall, break down but somehow, we always succeed in making it kick’… That’s exactly how I have felt about TBGT stuff. These days, I am learning through someone else’s eyes. I am being taught its mainly about Vanity. Its about letting go, or maybe the ability to listen. It’s about containing as well, being able to point your finger at the source, or doing what you do from the right reasons and place. Stay there when it hurts, without morphing the pain to anger, hate or frustration. That’s what she was trying to teach me. It brings me back to Malcolm’s stuff. His music affects me in a bizzare way, I mean, I have listened to North the other day, and digged this, but put it on hold, then picked it up again this morning, and was blown away, man, this track really touched me deep inside… And he would probably understand was I was writing about.
