Sleepy Sun To Release Sophomore LP “Fever” Out June 1st On ATP / Announce US Tour With Arctic Monkeys / Play SXSW & Bro Fest 2010

March 10th, 2010

Sleepy Sun is a California band from many Californias. They hail from the rolling oak and sage hills of Sierra Gold Country, The San Francisco Peninsula, where Kesey raged and the Dead were once Warlocks, and the forever-sunshine climes of the Southland. They came together—young and garage strutting in the coastal Northern California crucible of Santa Cruz. And there they birthed the Sleepy sound—dead blues shaken alive, razor sharp and ramblin’, soul, sonic science and dead-on pop surgery. Wooden, earthy, stratospheric, and swinging…California music of beautiful contrasts for conflicted times.

Now, two records into a frighteningly fast-blossoming evolution, Sleepy Sun are a living machine of fire and focus. Their first release on ATP records Embrace illuminated the golden path to Sleepy land—hard-riffing, delicate, dreamy and cultivated. The latest ATP release, Fever, is arrival at the palace the path promised.

Sleepy Sun won’t relent in 2010. Fever in May, SXSW and the Arctic Monkeys in spring. And as always, a hundred twists yet untold in a message—sent with burning love and rock-solid soul—from California to the whole damn beyond….

The Apse interview

December 12th, 2009

apse climb up

In the fall of 2007, Apse`s Michael Gundlach and Bobby have moved to the shores of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. This has started a new era for this great band. 2 Brooklyn based members have left, and Michael and Bobby have teamed up with local multi instrumentalist Jed Armour, who introduced them to drummer Brandon Collins. At the end of the year, ATP records is going to release Climb up, an album recorded at the band members homes as demos, rearranged and mixed later on by Bobby, Jed and Michael.

This is The Lofiles Apse interview with Bobby

Apse

November 19th, 2009

In the fall of 2007, Apse`s Michael Gundlach and Bobby have moved to the shores of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. This has started a new era for this great band. 2 Brooklyn based members have left, and Michael and Bobby have teamed up with local multi instrumentalist Jed Armour, who introduced them to drummer Brandon Collins.
At the end of the year, ATP records is going to release Climb up, an album recorded at the band members homes as demos, rearranged and mixed later on by Bobby, Jed and Michael.
I have started listening to this extremely versatile album this morning. A mixture of pop, rock, electronic, progressive in the vein of progressive bands from the 70`s that their record tells a story, haunting melodies and arrangements. Great guitar parts and sounds, great sounding keys .The use of reverbs, delays and effects is very musical and chosen for a reason – within the context of the musical idea. I chose to share with you this gorgeous song called Lie, a slower song, perfect for a wintery day such as today, dreaming about the shores of Cape Cod at this time of the year. This album is one of the best albums I have listened to since listening to The Antlers Hospice.
Director Lance Drake took 3.1, of Climb up, and shot a video clip at the bands attic. You could see the energy of Apse live with glimpse to the Cape Cod views outside the windows. Perfect choice for this album atmosphere and vibe.
