Blake Mills

January 22nd, 2011

This is the weekend, and for a change, unlike prior weekends, I am trying to regain strength and energy, thus to get some rest, get my head cleaned. This song has a Bon Iver twist to it, although it is an Americana pop folkish jam, and something about it grabbed my attention and made spin it more than once. The 2nd upbeat part has a Fleetwood Mac`s Rumors color to it and I really dig this cheesy brassy chorus part. Blake Mills got an impressive resume already, and he is only 23 year old. He’s toured with the likes of Band Of Horses, Jenny Lewis, and Cass McCombs and has recorded as a session musician with Julian Casablancas, Andrew Bird, and.. Kid Rock

The Romany Rye Daytrotter sessions

May 28th, 2010

THE ROMANY RYE will join Delta Spirit this summer for an extensive North America tour that launches on June 7th at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, CA. Highlights include two shows in New York – June 30th at Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom and July 1st at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn – and a performance at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre on July 23rd.

Tipped by Kings of Leon’s Matthew Followill as the new band to watch in NME’s 2010 New Music issue (a sentiment echoed by Matt Costa on jambands.com), THE ROMANY RYE is touring in support of its debut album, Highway 1, Looking Back Carefully, an intimate collection of songs penned by former Colour guitarist Luke MacMaster. The singer-songwriter produced and recorded the album along with Delta Spirit’s Kelly Winwrich and the two were joined in the studio by a group of friends that included Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), David Quon (We Barbarians) and Blake Mills. Shortly after completing the album, MacMaster put together the band now known as THE ROMANY RYE, inviting Judson Spillyards, Joshua Spillyards and Ryan Hitt from Christopher Denny’s former backing band, The Natives, to join him.
