Boonaroo updates

March 6th, 2010

Superfly and A.C. Entertainment are proud to announce that the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has added several artists to the 2010 event, further diversifying a wonderfully eclectic and stellar lineup. Updates include Bonnaroo veterans Ween, Galactic and Umphrey’s McGee as as well as gifted singer/songwriter Brandi Carlisle and the genre- bending, post-punk trio The Gossip. A full list of confirmed acts follows.

The largest and most revered music and camping event in the country, Bonnaroo has elevated the American rock festival to an unprecedented level. The Wall Street Journal called Bonnaroo “one of rock’s best festivals,” continuing to hail that the 2009 lineup “fairly bursts with some of the most gifted acts in rock and pop.” Entertainment Weekly called it “the best of all sonic worlds,” while the New York Times said, “Bonnaroo’s very loose mandate – and a wise one for any festival – is to choose performers who deliver in a live performance, with current hits and studio expertise as lower priorities. One of the pleasures of the festival is that it defies narrowcasting: It’s not an Americana festival, an indie-rock festival, a gathering of 2008-9 hitmakers or anything but what its producers and, presumably, ticket-buyers are happy to hear.” Rolling Stone called Bonnaroo “one of the 50 moments to change the history of rock and roll.”

Calexico in Israel

August 19th, 2009

Saw this magical gang 2 nights in a row, going to see them again tonight. Drum brushes, waltz, dark, sexy, Mexican, ballads, romantic, cheerfull, that`s what comes to mind when you think of Joey, John and their gang, Calexico. Armed with Depedro, this wonderful Spanish singer, songwriter, performer, one of Joey`s production efforts. Saw them bringing the house down with an seven piece band ( drums, bass, guitars, pedal steel, vibes, trumpets, shakers accordion and the whole nine ), playing 3 hours of overwhelming performance, trying to squeeze in every song on their repertoire. Saw them the night before as well coming straight from the airport performing in this tiny place with a 3 piece and videotaped those magical 2 nights and will bring it to you as part of our Lolive section. If you are in Tel Aviv you got to catch them tonight at the Barbie club.
As for Depedro check out what he`s saying about his project and Meeting joey in Tucson:
….”After travelling for more than 20 hours I dive into a bar in Tucson, where I meet Amparo, Kaki Arkazrazo (her producer) and Joey. I manage to get over the jet lag with some beers and this cheerful company. Amparo is just about to finish her record with Calexico, which shall be released in 2009, no longer by the name of “Amparanoia” but as a solo artist. The next day, still a bit dizzy, I play some guitars for her record before they leave. I am now left on my own with Joey and 7 days for recording and 8 for mixing this little creature called DEPEDRO. DEPEDRO was a really intense recording. 10 hours a day, Joey was flying around, letting all his art out, and always taking care of me, while doing all kinds of overdubs”….

No need to introduce this guy

French heaven

December 22nd, 2008

It is the perfect piece for a grey winter day like this one, it is just a shame I don’t listen to it while sitting at a French Bistro chewing on a croque madame .After you have heard “Heaven” of the album “Cheval Oblique” by multi instrumentalist / Percussion man Thomas Belhom, it is unnecessary to mention his long and impressive resume. I`ll just say that after moving from France to Tuscon Arizona, he had formed a duo with Amor Naim, and joined forces with Calexico guys Joey Burns and Convertino.
