Men in black

February 2nd, 2012

We have just stumbled upon this wonderful cassette tape by Chris Gross from PA. This tape was made in 1990 but was never released at that time. It is a presentation originally intended as a C90. This is a memorial tape for Casio lovers, old hardware Arps, and 4 trk bedroom taped music in it’s best. Men in Black / The Fung.

Not as tidy as you would expect

October 26th, 2010

I was listening to Tidy Kid for the first time, while thinking he could be an Warp artist and still shine, meaning he got those extra qualities and musical and technical abilities without even knowing Warp had released a Bibio remix of his. One of his recording ventures is titled ‘One Week With My Casio’ , and it`s one of the most creative EP`s you could lay your hands on. If you consider it took only a week to create – song composition plus recording, and that it was all done with a CASIO CT-102 you are going to be quite shocked., I really dig this ground breaking, adventurous, spontaneous, and imaginative EP. It`s the 2nd time in a short period of time that we write about bedroom casio geeks, no offense. This NYC based musician`s EP was originally released in cassette by Germany’s Froggi Records. This K7 only release is limited to 150 copies, by the way.

Soulin

February 16th, 2009

“For some, music is a hobby, or if they’re lucky a job or a passion; for JJ Cale it’s not even a choice: music is all he’s ever known. He’s a lifer. Born John Weldon Cale in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the guitarist, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and engineer has been doing this for over fifty years and on February 24, 2009, Rounder Records will release Roll On, Cale’s sixteenth album”…
It is hard for me to describe what Cale`s music doing to me. I have tried to write several things and scratched it all. So I figured a song could summarize it all. I have chosen “Soulin” . The funkiest soulful groove, this unique whispery chanting singing, the foooonky wa guitar in the intro, the shitty sounding but right distorted lead, I guess it his his famous Casio, the dry tiny drum sound. Everything, man. No wonder why every other musician and his wife covered this guy.
