The first thing that comes to mind while listening to the very beginning of ‘Remember‘ by C Spencer Yeh is earlier David Bowie material or Eno’s ‘Before and after science‘Another green world’ or ‘Here come the warm jets’. C S Yeh was born in Taipei, Taiwan, repped Cincinnati for many many years and is now based in Brooklyn, New York. Buy it HERE!

Whistle peak

July 18th, 2011

One of those days when you got to set things in motion and be in control, take decisions, and solve problems again. You got to find the extra strength within your fragile self, but then your body lets you down. Too bad…All you can do is lay back, take a long deep breath, remember the days 5 shots of Vodka did the job for ya and find a decent substitute….. Shut you bedroom door, dim the lights, put on your groovy headphones, listen to Whistle Peak, and let them take over… Something about their dry acoustic sound, sloppy beats, the fact they don’t take themselves too seriously and those wonderful tiny gems they make,  eases the pain tonite. Loved their brave cover of Bowie`s Lady Stardust, I mean, anyone who dares covering The White Duke and gets away with it, gets our respect.. Head over to their Soundcloud page and enjoy ‘Louisville is for lovers series’ and ‘Whistle Peak’ as much as I do right now.

God only knows

January 21st, 2011

After Bowie did his version of ‘God only knows’, originally, a Beach boys song, I have found it hard to believe someone will cover this song and get away with it. You got to admit Kiersten Holine did a great job with this bare acoustic version, and we likkkkkkke it.

Seven Saturdays (formerly known as Firs) drop new EP today

January 12th, 2010

Jonathan D. Haskell is the orchestrator and multi-instrumentalist for ‘Seven Saturdays’ (known to some of you as the man behind ‘Firs‘).

A native Angeleno, Jonathan D. Haskell has spent years working and re-working the subtle melodic nuances that have become the headphone-centric Seven Saturdays. Conceived walking the cobblestone streets of Edinburgh while sipping scotch, Haskell accepted his inescapable fate of never leaving Los Angeles and his impending return. With that, Seven Saturdays embody his love / hate relationship with said city.

Seven Saturdays was recorded, produced and mixed by Haskell and Daniel Farris (St. Vincent, The Black Pill) in the shadowy confines of downtown Los Angeles. And contributing everything from heart-pulled strings, down tempo beats, delicate keyboards and distant voices, Seven Saturdays comprises an impressive list of talented musicians including: Lester Nuby (Verbena, Terra Naomi), Morgan Grace Kibby (M83), Mike Garson (David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins) and Eric Heywood (The Pretenders, Ray LaMontagne).
