Holy s…

December 26th, 2008

Coming straight from the ancient city of Safed in the mountains of Galilee, Israel. Safed is one of the four holy cities in Israel, together with Jerusalem, Hebron and Tiberias. The old part of town consists of narrow cobblestone alleys revealing artists’ galleries, medieval synagogues, private homes and small guest houses. The city flourished in the 16th century, when many famous Jewish religious scholars and mystics moved to Safed following the Spanish Expulsion,, fleeing from the horrors of the Inquisition. Safed then became the spiritual center of the Jewish world, where Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) reached the peak of its influence. Kabbalists, such as Rabbi Yitzhak Luria (Ha-Ari HaKadosh) and Rabbi Shlomo Alkabetz (author of Lecha Dodi) and Rabbi Yosef Karo (author of the Shulchan Aruch) just to name a few, made the city famous.
From the beautiful mystical alleys of this town came 2 penitents ( hozer bitshuva) and made this magical authentic record, music that could only be written in those surroundings. Special thanx to Haim Hazin and his wife Liat and to his excellent label Hindik music – a label for Alternative, new Jewish music. This record comes to show you this guy does it not only to get paid. He believes in this music although it isn’t your mainstream pop. They were telling me these two guys named Ima Ilahah had an interview in the largest station for jewish music in Israel and one of the guys woudnt come cause he was too shy. I guess this is a new breed of rock stars… Listen.
