Lofilesmusic – now the label

June 12th, 2011

After 3 years of Lofiles org activities for the indie and lofi community, we are so proud to announce the birth of our label, Lofilesmusic, and our first signing, Micha Stern AKA Rafeak, an Israeli bedroom artist with a first single titled Haifa, a project he created with a laptop, mini controller, and a cheesy pair of headphones. You could purchase the track and pay any amount you`d like, which would help him and us to continue doing what we try do so far, bring you the best music we can.

Micha Stern aka Rafeak…”I was born and raised in the city of Haifa, the largest northern city of Israel. Every time I get into my car and head up north, as soon as I see this sign,” Welcome to the city of Haifa”, I feel discomfort, a physical unease, that goes away only when I leave. There is a big dark cloud above my childhood in the city of Haifa, and many noisy q marks around it. But many residents see different aspects of this strange town, a place where Jews and Arabs try to live side by side in peace, …This is a bedroom track I have titled ‘Haifa’, such a meaningful place for me, although I would rather forget it`s there most of the time,  featuring vocal samples of An Arabic female singer from Haifa, and the painting is my painting of Vady Nisnas, an Arabic neighborhood in the heart of Haifa…

Every dog has it`s afternoon

April 16th, 2011

Nico Giarrano has been releasing music as Places for a little while now, and March is his first attempt at stringing together a full set of songs,. This is another extremely creative bedroom pop project, like the ones we enjoy discovering.

The album is quite versatile, and although you could always blame lofi for everything that is off, Nico succeeded in creating a perfect balance between skills and the rough spontanious ‘accidental’ stuff. Great combination of distorted vocals, dry lofi drums, cool sounding guitars, this is a dude that could really go far with them skills and his musical and artistic ability. I have chosen to share this demo with you..

Shitgazed

April 11th, 2011

Psychedelic Horseshit are a gloriously messy band rooted in lo-fi punk experimentation, allthough they’ve kept a step ahead of the lo-fi scene by inventing a new sub genre they have christened ‘shitgaze’. Hailing from Colombus, Ohio, the Rust Belt capital MTV described as “ground zero for lo-fi punk, They began using a bunch of battered equipment, recording to four-track cassette, with a cardboard box for a bass drum and junkshop guitars and keyboards. All of a sudden, via a joke reference on their myspace page, ‘shitgaze‘ (the lo-fi genre-term they coined in satire of the early-’90s British shoegaze phenomenon) blew up and found them getting interviewed by MTV as well as being written up everywhere from Spin to NME. In 2010, a limited edition cassette, ‘Acid Tape’ signalled a move towards something more dazed and liquified, increasingly electronic.Signing to FatCat in late 2010, Psychedelic Horseshit‘s debut album for the label, ‘Laced‘, is due out in May 2011. ‘Puff’, the first track of ‘Laced‘, has inspired me to create this graphic scribble, and glued me to my tiny headphones for the last couple of hours or so…

Gaze at the dead

March 16th, 2011

Don’t you love it when you find out about new fresh music? It gives us a feeling we have fulfilled our mission here, thus, exposing you to new and dope material. Especially, if the artist is some kind of innovator. That`s the case with R. Cole Furlow AKA Dead Gaze, another bedroom lofi wizard. ‘I`m a mess when you`re gone’ is a little demonstration of the damage this guy could do.

Oh yes

This is our lucky day. Kaisercartel on Laundromatinee, this lovely Brooklyn duo ( we wrote about them months ago and expressed our admiration ), with a live video session for the good guys. This is what our site is about; Purity, simplicity, feel, minimalism, all in the lofi fashion. Acoustic guitar and brushes. Awesome
