Soundtrack heaven

I was walking down this main street in Tel Aviv and I have stumbled upon a funky used record store (‘Off the record’), and found all those great soundtracks I my collection was missing. So I bought David Lynch`s ‘Wild at heart’, ‘The deer hunter‘, Ennio Morricone`s ‘la Scorta`s soundtrack, Zbigniew Priesner ‘The double life of Veronique’, John Corigliano`s The red violin, David Holmes Ocean`s thirteen, Blixa Bargeld, Nick Cave & Mick Harvey`s ‘To have and to hold’, and The crying game. What a weekend I had. I didn’t know what to put on first, and I chose to share with you this 30`s style tune of ‘Wild at heart’, by Glen Gray & the Casa Loma Orchestra.

Tom McrRae believes in language, not just words, and he trusts the silences that sometimes appear in songs – leaves us to do the thinking and wondering. Yes there are touchstones: Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Dylan, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Vic Chestnutt, but they’re stepping off points rather than destinations, and what McRae shares with them is the idea of song as an art form.
And now there’s album number five, ‘The Alphabet of Hurricanes’. This is one of the best singer/ songwriter albums I have heard in a long time. Listen to this georgous album
