Woodsman with a new track, Insects, definitely their best so far, with Randolph sounding like Ian Astbury in the good days, (a complimemt), and a brilliant guitar riff (that Robert Fripp wouldn’t be ashamed of) riding throughout this incredible song. The best guitars we have heard in quite some time.
The image of the ‘No Pussyfooting’ cover, a very influential record for me, by Brian Eno* and Robert Fripp, caught my attention while going through their Myspace profile page. No pussyfooting was mentioned as a big influence on them as well, and it made me listen to Viernes music. Viernes are Alberto Hernandez and Sean Moore. I got to tell you, I am deeply impressed, especially after aiming so high. The music of the two dudes coming from Winter Park FL, the dreamlike soundscapes created by instruments such as Moore`s old Warlitzer piano inherited from his late father, and Hernandez father`s Puerto Rican cuatro. Awesome music, my friends. Sinister devices is Out on Kanine records, a label that brought us Grizzly bear, Chailift, Drink up buttercup and many more.
* I have promised myself not to mention Brian Eno, because of his dreadful opinions and shameful activities, about subjects he hardly knows a thing about ( talking about the situation in the middle east. I am hurt by his actions and opinions, and I know there are many friends and music lovers that loved his musical contribution and ideas, and it is hard for me to believe, that a man I once thought to be wise, made such ignorant moves.
Every time I am trying to come up with a dissonant or weird guitar solo, I think about this guy. What do King Crimson, Robert Fripp, Frank Zappa, Talking heads, David Bowie, Tom Tom club, Paul Simon, NIN, The Bears, Laurie Anderson, to name a few have in common? They all hired the services of guitar maestro extraordinaire ADRIAN BELEW. Now I have received a great video clip that showcases his incredible contribution to the world of music we all love and grew up on, at least dinosaurs like me.
“Adrian Belew reinvented the electric guitar.” – Frank Zappa
the best musician in the world.” – Trent Reznor
I have seen this guy playing as a trio at the Bottom line in NYC, Seated at a table 3 ft away this guy and stayed with my mouth wide opened the whole show, the versatility, the sounds, the imagination, the humor, just unbelievable.
