The Spectators

July 3rd, 2011

I have received a mail from an old acquaintance of mine, Dennis White, who happens to be the owner and founder of the Seattle Dadastic sounds label. Dennis has been releasing and introducing to us many local legendary punk, pop and R&B bands and artists, one of which is The Spectators, a band Bob Mould called ‘the best unreleased band in America’. The Spectators Call it KAOS‘ was recorded about 1982 at Triangle Studios back when it was owned by Jack Weaver. Dennis hopes to release a Spectators digital album sometime in the near future. In the meantime, Listen to ‘Call it Kaos’, from this inspiring band, especially to the awesome guitar playing of Byron Duff. This is organized chaos though, and to me it sounds like The Talking Heads meets Devo on speed.

Call it Kaos

Aaron Parks

August 30th, 2009

Aaron Parks came to the attention of Blue Note during his five-year tenure with Terence Blanchard, during which he appeared on three of the trumpeter’s acclaimed Blue Note albums.
Invisible Cinema, his latest recording venture, finds Parks in good shape as both a soloist and composer, buoyed by the support of guitarist Mike Moreno, bassist Matt Penman and drummer Eric Harland. Together they create a new millennium kind of jazz – check out last month`s Lofiles post. Tonight Aaron Parks will be performing at Levontin 7 at 23:30. Highly recommended. Be there.

Seattle

July 15th, 2009

I know this is not a typical genre for Lofiles, but this is one of the greatest and wildest punk bands to come out of the Seattle area, with so much talent, innovation, amazing musicianship and skills, it is almost embarrassing to give all those compliments and acknowledgement of abilities to a punk band….. Ladies and gentlemen, give a warm welcome to The Fags, fronted by the wildest legendary Charles Garish, or Upchuck, or just Chuck as we used to call him. Charles Garish has died of Aids in 1990. As you know or maybe you don’t, Chuck and I had a record of previously unreleased material out few months ago, released in Seattle by Dadastic records, distributed by Subpop, thanx to Dee main man himself, Dennis white. This album is called” Upchuck – gone but not forgiven”, and is a collection of some great rough songs, of Chuck`s versatile musical adventures. You could listen to his earlier bands, Clone and The Fags, and his last recording venture, our duo Such. Chuck was a great performer and very theatrical, often being compared to David Bowie, had a grand voice for a little fellow like he was, and wild wild appearance. So back to this great band, The Fags, that is actually looking for a new name, I wonder why.. I have offered them the name No Bananas, but I didnt get a comment about it
Fags members are Ben Ireland, now drums with the neo-hippie world music band Sky Cries Mary. Paul Solger having fronted bands like Solger and Ten Minute Warning disappeared from the Seattle scene, but over the years has worked with everyone from Jayne County to Mark Lanegan. Dahny Raphael has gone on to become a noted poet, songwriter and painter. Barb Ireland currently collaborates and tours with Pearl Jam`s Stone Gossard. I have heard the Fags are uniting these days in Seattle, and heard some great Iggy Pop type stuff.

Got to listen to these songs by the Fags.
