Everything is (more than) fine

March 24th, 2009

Joe Mcginty is a friend, musician, ex roommate of mine. We collaborated on several projects during the Eighties. Since then he has been busy working as session player, singer songwriter, producer, musical director and a vintage key studio owner. I just got a mail from him this morning with a link to this new musical adventure of his, collaborating with Ward White. This project , The Mcginty Ward songbook is a beautiful pop album. It reminds me of an album I loved, XTC`s Skylarking, with Beatlesque harmonies and melodies, and Joe`s sense of humor and sensibility. This is sweeter then the usual music I review here, but I really love it, and very happy to see someone I know for 20 years that is still making great music. The first song on this beautiful romantic sweet album “Everything is fine” showcases it all, listen to the melodies, vocal lines songwriting and arrangement. Awesome work, my friend. These days when everyone is trying so hard to impress, its nice to come across a naive project like this.

Joe Mcginty`s short bio: Joe McGinty is a composer, keyboardist and arranger who has worked with with the Psychedelic Furs, The Ramones, Deborah Harry, Ronnie Spector, Ryan Adams, Nada Surf, Jesse Malin, and many others. In the 90’s he led the orchestral pop ensemble Baby Steps, and currently fronts the electronic/woodwind/cello project, Circuit Parade. McGinty is the founder and music director of NYC’s Loser’s Lounge tribute series, which has consistently played to sold out rooms since its debut in 1993.
