Spencer Stephenson is a Texan sound sculptor, stitching samples together to creates dreamy soundscapes, recycling vintage sounds and make them sound so fresh. The result is a mix of psychedelia, hip hop and dreamy lush pop tracks, like the one you could listen to here. Feeling Today is Spencer Stephenson’s debut release under the Botany moniker, released by Western vinyl, the label that brought us all those great artists: J Tillman, Balmorhea, Goldmund, Slow six, Callers, Sleep whale, Bexar Bexar…

Brooklyn trio Callers have released their first single, “You Are An Arc,” the first song off their sophomore album, Life of Love, out October 12th on Western Vinyl. As for Western vinyl , our expectations are always high, and this great label has not disappointed us so far. Callers got their own recognizable sound, and to tell you the truth, I have heard You are an arc only twice, and got so excited, and wanted to go and tell everybody about this band, so I don’t want to ruin the fresh start for you guys. Listen and decide for yourselves. And don’t forget to tell your friends about this trio if you are impressed as much as we are..

You are an arc

Burd early

August 24th, 2010

Fatcat received demos from this band 6 years ago. Since then, they got signed to Western vinyl and and by now they are officially semi retired. It’s a shame if you listen to this demo Burd early had sent  titled ‘Fertilizer waiting to happen’. If you visit their Western vinyl page you see they are trying to sell last BE copies to clear shelve space…kinda sad when you think about it.

Here We Go Magic Join White Rabbits On US Spring Tour / Play Pitchfork, Primavera & Bonnaroo Music Festivals / Look Out For Sophomore Record Spring 2010 On Secretly Canadian

February 16th, 2010

It’s been a big year for Here We Go Magic following the release of their much celebrated self-titled debut (Western Vinyl), and now they have their sights firmly set on 2010 with a new album, a new record label, and an ever expanding sound. Having just signed to Secretly Canadian, the band is targeting Spring of 2010 to release their highly anticipated follow-up to 2009’s breakthrough record.

The band have spent much of the year on the road touring with indie giants including Grizzly Bear and are currently supporting The Walkmen before playing Austin City Limits.

Here We Go Magic are also hard at work recording the self-produced sophomore album in a house they’ve commandeered in upstate New York, and while the first record was the result of Luke Temple getting creative in his bedroom, this release is a fully fledged team effort.

With an eye towards 2010 the band is looking forward to expanding their audience as their unique sound continues to permeate throughout the indie world.

Christopher Tignor

February 1st, 2010

Heard him with his band, Slow Six. Christopher Tignor is performing on violin and his own software instruments,. His post-rock / electro-acoustic troupe Slow Six performs regularly in the NYC area and beyond and has released records on the New Albion and Western Vinyl labels. Tignor has received acclaim from publications including Pitchfork, The Wire, The New York Times, and Time Out New York who declared his debut LP one of the 10 best Classical recordings of 2004. His latest solo release of intimate works for violin and piano side by side with live electronic remixes is entitled Core Memory Unwound and can be found at his site http://www.wiresundertension.com/where he also gives away his signature software instruments. His music ranges from string-heavy chamber music to laptop quintets using his own software to electro-acoustic music, dance, and video collaborations. He has performed with a wide array of musicians including Zeena Parkins, Todd Reynolds, John Butcher, and Richard Teitelbaum, his early mentor. You could watch a session recorded at WFMU studios with Chris demonstrating his software, which enables him to manipulate his band mate guitar parts simultaneously. Take it slow

January 29th, 2010

I have received a copy of Slow Six new album, out now on Western Vinyl. The first track on this wonderful wonderful record, ‘The night you lest new york’ reminded me of Robert Fripp`s arpeggios on ‘League of gentlemen’. Experimental instrumental album, with the amazing Christopher Tignor as musical director and on violin and his own composition software and Ben Lively on Violin. This is my band of the week and one of this month greater discoveries. Their sound is real tight, with the talented and great sounding Theo Metz on drums. With Stephen Griesgraber on guitar and Rob Collins on Fender Rhodes. The whole album has a Fripp-Eno experimental ambient feel to it and can compete with the greatest classic albums of Gentle Giant, Gong, Go…. If you are a serious music lover and listener you got to BUY THIS RECORD
