The Artyom Dervoed sessions

Russian Classical guitar monster Artyom Dervoed was in Israel couple of weeks ago to attend an international guitar competition. He was kind enough to lend us few hours In between different stages of the competition and we tried to make a “Vincent Moon” style clips with him outdoors, in a gorgeous orchard which belongs to my wife’s family. This project couldn’t take place without the help of producer/ PR lady, Kerem Miron. For most of you who know nothing about the guy, here are some bio details;

Artyom Dervoed was born in Rostov-on-Don (Russia) on 25th of October in 1981. He started studying a seven-string guitar when he was 6 years old with S. Annikov. A few years later he became a six-string guitar pupil of E. Svyatozarova in Orekhovo-Zuevo. In the early 1990s he continued his studies at the Shalyapin Music School in Moscow with L. Reznik. Artyom had graduated the private music school “Young Talents”, the A. Shnittke Music College and the Russian Gnesin’s Academy of Music in Moscow (as a student of Professor Nikolay Komolyatov).

In 2005 he completed a fourth year of master-classes with Oscar Ghiglia at the Academia Chigiana in Siena (Italy). In 2007 Artyom finished post-graduate education in Russian Gnesin’s Academy of Music with Nikolay Komolyatov. From 2006 he has continued post-graduate studies at the Koblenz Guitar Academy (Germany) with Aniello Desiderio.

Artyom Dervoed has won many awards in a series of important international competitions in Russia, France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Japan, Israel, Malaysia and USA.

In 2007 Artyom recorded a debut CD of music by Russian composers. Which was released by the world’s leading classical music label “Naxos” and climbed right away to Naxos’s “Top 10 chamber music bestsellers” list.

In November 2009 Artyom recorded his second CD in Madrid dedicated to Leo Brouwer’s 70th birthday.

This project is also a birthday gift to Artyom – who was 30 last week. These are the pieces he was playing for us.

1) Joaquin Rodrigo – Tiento Antiguo. (2 versions)

2) Federico Moreno-Torroba – Siguenza & Turegano from the “Castles of Spain”.
